According to NBA insider Chris Haynes, James Harden is planning to make his Cavs debut against the Sacramento Kings later this week.
Taking to X, Haynes wrote, “11-time NBA All-Star James Harden, if acclimation goes as planned, is expected to make his debut with the Cleveland Cavaliers on the road against the Sacramento Kings on Saturday, sources say.”
The 36-year-old was a force for the Clippers this season, averaging 25.4 points per game in 44 appearances. The scoring numbers also marked his highest since his last complete season with the Houston Rockets in the 2019-20 NBA season.

His assists have been impressive this season, ranking third with 8.1 per game behind Luka Dončić and Cade Cunningham. He did not suit up against his former team on Wednesday, which the Cavaliers won 124-91.
Speaking to ESPN for the first time since his trade, Harden said he understood life in the NBA. In life, not just basketball, when things don’t work out, there are ways to end things in relationships without having to crack each other,” the guard said.
“Okay, maybe we just don’t see a future with each other. Maybe we just outgrew each other, whatever the case may be,” Harden added. “I feel like other situations weren’t like that. And that’s why I can respect Steve and L and TLu because they didn’t put me in a weird position as much as everybody tried to make it like that.”
He also said he did not initiate the trade to the Cavaliers. “I wanted them to actually have a chance to rebuild and get some draft capital,” the veteran ball-handler said.
Harden will now ply his trade for a better-placed Cavaliers. They are fifth in the East with a 30-21 record. With Donovan Mitchell averaging 28.8 points per game and perfect pieces in Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen, Harden’s facilitating will see the Cavaliers aim to finish their regular season with a better seeding.
“In Cleveland, I see an opportunity to win in the East — they got a very good team, coaching staff, all of the above,” Harden added in the same interview. “So as much as I wanted to stay in LA and give it a go — I’ve never won one before. As a basketball mind, I think we have a bit better chance.”
