What Happened to Stephen Curry? Latest on the Warriors Superstar’s Injury vs. Pistons

Here's the latest on Stephen Curry's injury as the Warriors star left the game early against the Pistons on Friday.

Stephen Curry’s night ended early in the Golden State Warriors’ 131-124 loss to the Detroit Pistons on Friday, after the two-time MVP exited with a right knee issue that has been bothering him over the past week.

The injury scare came in the third quarter of a high-scoring game at Chase Center and immediately raised concern for a Warriors team fighting for position in the Western Conference. Early postgame indications from head coach Steve Kerr, however, pointed toward a relatively positive initial outlook, with further evaluation scheduled for Saturday.

Latest Steph Curry Injury Update: Warriors Star Leaves Game Early vs. Pistons

Curry’s injury occurred late in the third quarter against Detroit. After converting an and-1 layup, he was seen grimacing and showed visible discomfort as he came down. He then limped toward the bench area and, shortly afterward, headed down the tunnel to the locker room.

Reports from the arena noted that he walked gingerly as he left the floor, with the issue linked to the same knee that had recently put him on the injury report.

The Warriors later announced that Curry would not return due to right knee soreness. Before his exit, the 37-year-old guard had been productive, logging 25 minutes with 23 points while shooting efficiently from the field. He finished 7-for-14 overall and 4-for-10 from three-point range, adding two assists and one rebound, and also recording a block.

Pat Spencer opened the fourth quarter at point guard in Curry’s place as Golden State attempted to rally from a 108-95 deficit. The Warriors ultimately fell 131-124, dropping to 27-23 on the season and remaining eighth in the Western Conference standings.

Curry’s performance against Detroit continued a strong campaign in which he has averaged 27.3 points per game, his highest scoring mark in the last three seasons, while shooting 39.0 percent from beyond the arc.

That form has underscored his ongoing importance to a Warriors offense that leans heavily on his shooting and gravity, making any injury concern particularly significant as the team navigates a crowded playoff race.

Warriors Coach Steve Kerr Confirms No Major Injury to Curry

Following the loss, attention quickly turned to Kerr’s postgame media session for clarity on Curry’s status. The head coach acknowledged the concern around his star guard but struck an optimistic tone regarding the severity of the knee issue, while making clear that more information would come after further testing and evaluation.

“I think he’s okay. I don’t think it’s anything major, but we’ll have an update tomorrow,” Kerr said in the post-game conference. He framed the injury as a continuation of discomfort Curry has already been managing, rather than a completely new problem.

“It was the knee that kept him out of the game in Minneapolis. It’s been nagging him for the last week or so,” Kerr added, confirming that the soreness is tied to a recent stretch in which the guard has already missed time.

Those comments align with observations from earlier in the week, when the same knee issue forced Curry to sit out a game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. By describing the latest flare-up as something that has “been nagging him,” Kerr indicated that the team is dealing with an ongoing management challenge rather than an acute, clearly defined new injury.

At the same time, his insistence that he does not believe it is “anything major” suggests the Warriors are hopeful they have avoided a long-term setback for their leading scorer.

Golden State has not yet issued a formal timetable and is expected to provide another update after Curry undergoes additional evaluation on Saturday. Until then, the team is operating under cautious optimism based on Kerr’s initial read of the situation.

With the Warriors hovering in the middle of the Western Conference pack and relying heavily on Curry’s production, the confirmation that early signs do not point to a major injury offers at least some relief as they await more detailed medical information
