Luka Dončić Joins Lakers Legend Kobe Bryant in Franchise Record Books With 46-Point Masterclass vs. Bulls

Lakers G Luka Dončić went out and put on a show on Monday night against the Bulls, having a game that no one will forget for a long time.

Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Dončić went out and had one of those games in Chicago on Monday night that NBA fans will be talking about for a long, long time. Dončić just didn’t dominate on the court against the Chicago Bulls; he put on a masterclass. And he did so on a day when Lakers fans were remembering Kobe Bryant, who tragically passed away on Jan. 26, 2020.

Dončić propelled the Lakers to a 129-118 road victory over the Bulls. But, looking at Dončić’s stats for Monday’s victory will just reveal how dominant he was all night long.

Lakers Star Luka Dončić Puts Up Gaudy Numbers

What did Dončić do? Oh, he just scored 46 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, dished out 12  assists, made eight 3-pointers, and was 15-of-25 shooting from the floor in 38 minutes.

Yes, Dončić was that dominant.

StatHunter on X announced that Doncic had joined “Kobe Bryant as the only player in franchise history to record 45+ PTS, 10+ AST and 5+ 3PM in a single game.”

After the game, when speaking with reporters, Dončić discussed his effort on the court at the United Center. “I think I was just being aggressive, see what the defense gives you,” he said. “I said prolly JJ’s gonna be mad I took 25 shots. He’ll tell me to pass more… I’m kidding.”

How good a season is the Lakers’ guard having right now? According to his regular-season statistics, Dončić is scoring 33.8 points per game, grabbing 7.8 rebounds, dishing out 8.8 assists per game, and has a 47.1% field goal percentage. Those numbers are pretty good.

The Lakers are now 28-17 overall and occupy first place in the NBA’s Pacific Division. They hold a 1.5-game lead over the Phoenix Suns and a 3.5-game lead over the Golden State Warriors. The franchise has been able to capitalize on having the six-time NBA All-Star on its roster.

Of course, Dončić, along with Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris, joined the Lakers last season in a blockbuster three-team trade with the Dallas Mavericks. The Lakers sent Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and a first-round draft pick in 2029 to Dallas for the superstar guard. The Utah Jazz were also involved in the deal.

If the Lakers can get more “Luka magic” throughout the season, then they might be a formidable opponent when the NBA playoffs kick off later. He’ll have something to say about that, though, on the court alongside his teammate, LeBron James.
