With the New York Knicks trying to stay part of the NBA’s Eastern Conference race with a 27-19 record, 6.5 games behind the front-running Detroit Pistons, they might be looking for some help. And that help would be to give Knicks guard Jalen Brunson a little support at this time.
Knicks Pondering Trade To Help Out Jalen Brunson
The Knicks have been putting a solid group on the court, featuring Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns. But Brunson can’t always be the go-to guard for scoring that Knicks head coach Mike Brown would want him to be.
Sometimes, Brunson could use a little support. That’s why, according to Marc Stein of The Stein Line, who covers the NBA regularly, the Knicks are potentially looking at making a deal for the Portland Trail Blazers’ Jrue Holiday.
“Another concept that keeps coming up: Rumbles that the Knicks have explored pathways to try to acquire Portland’s Jrue Holiday,” Stein wrote.
“There are at least two clear reasons why New York would have interest in a player who helped both Milwaukee and Boston win championships this decade,” Stein wrote.
“One, the presumption that acquiring Holiday — if there’s a way — would make the Knicks an even more attractive destination to Holiday’s former (Milwaukee) Bucks teammate (Giannis) Antetokounmpo,” Stein continued. “(And) two, New York is believed to hold a longstanding fondness for Holiday as a potential backcourt complement to Jalen Brunson.”
The Knicks, who will host the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden, have leaned on Brunson’s scoring touch and guard play throughout this season. Entering Tuesday night’s game, Brunson paces the New York offense by averaging 28.0 points and 6.1 assists per game.
Guard Mikal Bridges leads the Knicks in field goal percentage at 49.5% from the floor.
What about the Holiday season for the Trail Blazers, who are 23-24 in the 2025-26 NBA season? He’s averaging 15.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 7.1 assists on the season. Holiday signed a $134,400,000 contract originally when he was with the Boston Celtics.
That type of output could complement Brunson’s play quite well. And, if the Knicks really do want to lure Antetokounmpo to the Big Apple, then getting Holiday on board would help in that matter. At this time, Antetokounmpo and the Bucks are not seeing eye to eye, which might lead him to look to get out via trade.
Still, a deal that could bring Holiday to the Knicks is something New York fans will be watching for, if it happens at all.
