Lakers Star LeBron James Drops 6-Word Response When Asked Where He Wants to Finish the NBA Season

During a recent media interaction, LeBron James reacted to a question about his future with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Last season, there was unmatchable hype around LeBron James and his upcoming 23rd NBA season. The NBA world was seated to watch James make history, likely maintaining the same level of intensity he always has.

But with increasing sciatica pain and extended time off, James started the 2025-26 campaign late — taking some time to gain momentum. And though the Los Angeles Lakers remain viable championship contenders, James’ role and future with the team continue to generate news.

Lakers Superstar LeBron James Reacts After Question About Uncertain NBA Future

After his second stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers, few expected James to move teams again. But he signed with the Lakers in 2018, even winning them a title in 2020.

But the 41-year-old has since then struggled to reach the NBA finals, leaving many to question his longevity in the league. Of course, there were a few doubts over James’ performance, which remained consistent throughout the years.

With the NBA trade deadline approaching in February, rumors about James moving before the playoffs continue to crop up.

In a recent interaction with the media, James was asked about where he’ll end the season — ultimately eliciting an interesting reply from the four-time NBA champion. “Is this where you want to finish the season?” the Athletic’s Dan Woike asked. “I’m good. I’m good. … I’m good,” James replied.

Having said that, there were multiple takes on James’ response. Some assumed the Lakers star was simply annoyed by the media’s line of questioning and simply wanted to leave as soon as he could.

Some viewers saw it as a lack of interest in the Lakers’ upcoming offseason, wondering if it were time for James to pick the team he would retire with. There’s also ample retirement talk around the 21-time NBA All-Star.

With James’ game slowing down and recurring health issues cropping up, there’s a good chance the Akron-native decides to retire in 2026.

James Also Reacted to the Viral Jeanie Buss Controversy

Earlier this week, a report stated that Lakers governor Jeanie Buss had taken issue with James’ “outsized ego”. Though focusing on the Buss family and their problems, the report also highlighted Jeanie’s strained relationship with James.

James, though, seemed unconcerned about reports. ‘I don’t really care about the reports, to be honest,” James said. “You guys know me. You guys know, since I’ve been here, my eighth year here, been in this league 23 years, there’s gonna be another article tomorrow, especially involving me.”

James added that he was here to win and restore excellence, and that he has absolutely no interest in articles, podcasts, or stories. “It don’t bother me. I’m 41 years old, and I watch golf every day,” James added.

Having said that, there’s no match for James even at 41, the veteran star carrying on despite multiple health worries. NBA analysts have often regarded James’ perseverance as extraordinary, especially given that not everyone his age can continue playing at a high level.

James is currently averaging 22.5 points, 6.9 assists, and 6.0 rebounds this season, with the Lakers ranked sixth in the Western Conference.
