The Minnesota Timberwolves are having a pretty solid season so far. They currently have a 27-14 record and are comfortably in fourth place in the Western Conference standings.
Things are looking good for the team. But there is one big issue that they are dealing with right now. Their star player, Anthony Edwards, is sidelined with an injury, and fans just got some important news about his situation.
NBA Insider Has Made a Revelation Regarding Anthony Edwards
During a recent ESPN segment, NBA insider Shams Charania shared details about Edwards’ condition that caught everyone’s attention. According to Charania, Edwards is dealing with an infection in his toe.
Now, this is not just a simple day-to-day thing because it is an infection. The Timberwolves cannot really put a specific date on when he will return to the court.
Unlike a regular muscle strain or something like that, infections need time to heal correctly, and you cannot rush that process. The team has to wait for the infection to clear up completely before they can even think about bringing him back to action.
“Anthony Edwards is dealing with what is a re-infection in the toe in his right foot. He has been getting treatment for it, allowing it to calm down. He is already though back on the court. He is gonna be day-to-day on a returned action.”
“Just a reminder, he dealt with the same infection in December. He missed 11 days because of it. Just allowed it to calm down. Get treatment for it. Then essentially it is a very, very similar process for him. He is gonna be out against Houston. He is gonna be day to day for a return from that infection in that foot,” Charania said during the ESPN segment.

The news that Edwards would miss today’s game against the Houston Rockets was actually announced by the team a day earlier. At that time, they kept it pretty vague. They just listed the reason as “injury management” on the injury report. But now we know there’s more to the story.
The good news, though, is that, according to Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic, the team isn’t viewing this as a significant issue. They do not seem to be overly concerned about it becoming a long-term problem. This should give fans some relief.
“I’ve been told the team does not view Edwards’ situation as any kind of a long-term issue. But it has been nagging at him, and the volume of games the Wolves are playing right now isn’t helping that either,” Krawczynski wrote on X.
When you look at Edwards’ performance this season, you can see why the Timberwolves want him back as soon as possible. Before being out, he was averaging 28.9 points per game, 5 rebounds, and 3.8 assists.
But here’s the thing that’s a bit worrying. This season, Edwards has already missed nine games total (including today’s game against Houston), and all of them have been related to various leg issues. It’s something the team will need to monitor carefully going forward.
But here is some encouraging news for Minnesota fans: in their most recent victory over the Milwaukee Bucks, the Timberwolves showed they can still get the job done without their superstar. Julius Randle stepped up big time among the starters as he dropped 29 points to lead the charge. If we see he got plenty of help too, with Naz Reid chipping in 19 points and Jaden McDaniels adding 17 of his own.
Now, if we look at the game against Milwaukee, the Timberwolves had a strong start, building an 18-point lead by the end of the first quarter. They did not let up either. When halftime rolled around, their lead had ballooned to 31 points.
The Bucks just had no answers. Things got even worse for Milwaukee in the fourth quarter when the Wolves had the most significant lead of the game, which was 41 points. The final score was (139-106).
Still, while wins like that show the team’s depth and resilience, Timberwolves fans are anxiously awaiting news on when Edwards will be ready to return to the court.
