Reportedly, the two-time All-Star point guard of the Memphis Grizzlies, Ja Morant, is on the trade block ahead of next month’s deadline. If his recent house purchase is anything to go by, it could be a significant hint as to his next destination.
Ja Morant’s Home Purchase May Indicate Potential Trade Destination
According to Miami-Dade County property records, Morant reportedly purchased a $3.2 million home in Miami.
Furthermore, the luxury property was reportedly purchased on December 23, 2025, under a trust in his name, and is only about a 20-minute drive from the Kaseya arena, which is ideal if he intends to play for the Heat moving forward.

The Heat have emerged as a favored destination once it became clear the Grizzlies were willing to trade their star point guard. As first reported by Shams Charania of ESPN, the Grizzlies are entertaining offers to move Morant.
Morant has two years and $87 million remaining on his contract. The teams mentioned as potential destinations are the Sacramento Kings and the Milwaukee Bucks, but the Heat look to be Morant’s preferred choice if he has input in a possible deal.
A few years ago, it would have been considered blasphemy to imagine that Morant’s incredible talent would be made available for trade, as he was often looked upon as the face of the new generation of NBA talent after winning Rookie of the Year and making two All-Star teams.
However, injuries have played a significant role in his waning influence with the Grizzlies. Over his last three seasons, he’s played in only 38% of the Grizzlies’ possible games. He’s also due to miss their upcoming match in Berlin against the Magic on Thursday, having played only 18 games this season.
His effectiveness on the court has declined from his heights in 2021, when he averaged 27 points and 6.7 assists on 49% shooting, a career-high 34% from three-point range. Fast forward to this injury-plagued season, and he’s averaging a comparatively poor 19 points on career-low shooting of 40% from the field, just 20% from three.
He has also faced several high-profile disciplinary issues, including being suspended by the NBA for waving a gun on social media and, most recently, publicly criticizing the Grizzlies’ coach, which led to Memphis’ dissatisfaction with his conduct.
It’s reached the point where both parties need to move on for a fresh start. With the Heat in need of star power and a point guard, Erik Spoelstra getting an opportunity to unlock his enormous talent again may be the best situation for the player and the franchise.
Reportedly, the Heat are Morant’s preferred destination, and his recent property purchase in Miami may indicate that something could happen on the trade front in the near future.
