Shams Charania Announces Crucial Update on Anthony Davis’ Injury After Recent Appointment With ‘Specialist’

NBA insider Shams Charania provided a crucial update regarding Mavericks star Anthony Davis' recent injury.

Earlier on Tuesday, NBA insider Shams Charania reported that Anthony Davis sought medical attention for his injury. Last Thursday, when the Dallas Mavericks faced the Utah Jazz, Davis tore a ligament in his left hand.

Charania mentioned that Davis was likely to get surgery, which would put him on the shelf for several months, basically ending his season. However, after the recent turn of events, the NBA insider provided a crucial update.

Anthony Davis Set To Miss Six Weeks of Action

Charania went on social media to make a follow-up report regarding Davis’ left-hand injury. The insider revealed that AD wouldn’t require surgery any longer and is expected to miss six weeks of action.

Charania’s earlier report regarding the required surgery came from the initial doctors Davis went through. The big man then got a second opinion from a specialist, who then waived off the surgery.

“Dallas’ Anthony Davis will not require surgery on his injured hand after a second opinion with specialist Dr. Steven Shin in Los Angeles on Tuesday and will be re-evaluated in six weeks,” Charania reported on X.

This somehow comes as good news for the Mavericks. With the NBA trade deadline coming up in three weeks, the Mavs are still actively trying to find a trade destination for Davis. If he were to be out for the remainder of the season, that would’ve hurt Dallas’ chances of shipping him away.

However, that doesn’t mean anything is guaranteed at this point. Several sources reported that it’s unlikely that other teams would be willing to trade for the star big man. This is due to his being injury-prone.

If the Mavericks don’t end up trading Davis by Feb. 5, it’s still good to know that he’ll eventually become available to play in the second half of the season. There have been rumors that Kyrie Irving might make his return by then, which would be perfect timing for AD to come back as well.

As of the time of this writing, there is no official return date for either Davis or Irving. The earliest possible return date for AD would fall on Feb. 24, when the Mavericks will take on the Brooklyn Nets. As for Kyrie, there’s still no news regarding his comeback.
