Steve Kerr Admits His Major Weakness After Warriors’ Disappointing Loss to Raptors

Steve Kerr takes responsibility after the Warriors’ overtime loss to the Raptors, admitting a key issue hurting Golden State this season.

On Monday night, the Golden State Warriors’ three-game winning streak came to an end in a close game that went into overtime against the Toronto Raptors at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.

This defeat exposed lingering issues with execution, turnovers, and late-game composure. Despite strong individual performances, the Warriors were unable to close out a winnable contest. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has now addressed the problem they have been facing this season.

Steve Kerr Takes Responsibility After Warriors’ Disappointing Night

Golden State entered the matchup with high confidence, having won three games in a row and looking to solidify its position in the Western Conference playoff race. Instead, the Warriors allowed the Raptors to dictate the tempo in critical stretches, particularly after regulation, where Toronto capitalized on Golden State’s mistakes and outscored them decisively in overtime.

Following the loss, Kerr did not shy away from accountability. “I’ve gotta get us better organized during those stretches, that’s on me. They turned up the pressure, we didn’t handle it well and they scored 35 points off our turnovers.” Kerr said.

The Warriors actually showed flashes of their offensive firepower. Stephen Curry led the way with a game-high 39 points, showcasing his trademark shot-making and keeping Golden State competitive. He also made four assists and three rebounds. Draymond Green contributed 21 points along with seven assists and four rebounds, while Jimmy Butler added 19 points and six rebounds in a solid all-around effort.

However, those individual performances were overshadowed by team-wide lapses. Golden State committed costly turnovers, struggled to handle ball pressure, and failed to generate quality looks late. The Raptors exploited those weaknesses. They scored 19 points in overtime to seal the victory, while the Warriors just put five points in overtime.

Despite the all-round performance in this match, they couldn’t hold their nerve when it mattered, and this has been their story this season so far. The Warriors are heavily dependent on the star Curry. And their inability to maintain structure when opponents increase defensive intensity.

From a standings perspective, the loss dropped Golden State further into the crowded middle of the Western Conference; they are the eighth seed in the Western Conference with 16 wins and the same number of losses.

The Warriors will need to refine their decision-making and rediscover their late-game strategies if they hope to reestablish themselves as a serious playoff contender. For now, Kerr’s willingness to shoulder the blame highlights both the challenges ahead and the standard the Warriors continue to hold themselves to.
