Stephen Curry Pays Tribute to Former Warriors Teammate Klay Thompson During Christmas Clash vs. Mavericks

Stephen Curry honored former Warriors teammate Klay Thompson during the Christmas Day clash against the Mavericks.

For more than a decade, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson defined an era of NBA basketball. Together, the iconic Splash Brothers formed the backbone of the Golden State Warriors’ dynasty, with their historic 3-point shooting leading the franchise to four NBA championships.

On Christmas Day 2025, the two longtime teammates reunited — but on opposite sides. Curry’s Warriors hosted Thompson’s Mavericks at Chase Center as part of the NBA’s Christmas Day slate. While the game carried playoff-like intensity, it also featured a heartfelt moment that reminded fans of everything Curry and Thompson accomplished together.

Stephen Curry Honors Klay Thompson With Footwear Tribute

As first reported by ClutchPoints, Curry took the floor wearing Klay Thompson’s signature Anta KT 11 “Christmas” sneakers during the matchup against the Mavericks. The gesture stood out, especially given Curry’s recent sneaker journey.

After parting ways with Under Armour on Nov. 13, Curry became a sneaker free agent and has since worn a rotating selection of shoes tied to his nightly opponents. Earlier this month, he wore Anthony Edwards’ signature sneakers against the Minnesota Timberwolves and followed that by lacing up Devin Booker’s Nike Book 1s in a game against the Phoenix Suns.

Curry has also paid homage to Orlando Magic legends Shaquille O’Neal and Penny Hardaway by wearing their signature shoe lines earlier this season.

Choosing Thompson’s Anta KT 11s on Christmas Day, however, carried a deeper emotional meaning. It marked a public show of respect for a teammate Curry spent nearly 13 seasons alongside, sharing championship runs, Finals appearances, and countless iconic moments.

Speaking about the reunion, Curry acknowledged how surreal it still feels seeing Thompson in a different uniform.

“They don’t miss a thing, especially the Splash Bros out there. Very sentimental moment, I’m sure,” Curry said, per Warriors on NBC Sports. “Any time we’re in the same space, Draymond included, that was cool for sure… It will never be normal seeing him somewhere else. But also, we’re trying to deal with the here and now.”

Curry Shines as Warriors Beat Mavericks on Christmas Day

While the tribute drew attention, Curry made sure the moment didn’t distract from the task at hand. Even on a night when his shooting wasn’t at its sharpest, the two-time MVP delivered when it mattered most. Curry finished with 23 points, three rebounds, and four assists, shooting 6-of-18 from the field, leading all Warriors scorers and guiding Golden State to a Christmas Day victory.

Thompson, meanwhile, endured a quiet night against his former team. The veteran guard managed just seven points, two rebounds, and two assists, struggling to find rhythm against the Warriors’ defense. The game marked the fourth time Thompson has returned to Chase Center as a visiting player, each appearance carrying emotional weight for both the player and the fan base.

The Mavericks were further hampered when Anthony Davis exited in the second quarter with a groin injury. Davis totaled three points, three rebounds, and two blocks in just 11 minutes before leaving the game, forcing Dallas to adjust on the fly.
