Rapper The Game Reveals the 2-Time NBA All-Star Who Gifted Him $100,000 and a Range Rover

On Club Shay Shay, The Game shares a powerful story about Baron Davis buying him a Range Rover and gifting $100,000 as a show of pride, friendship, and belief during a difficult chapter in his life.

The Game’s appearance on Club Shay Shay stood out not for displays of wealth or status, but for what it revealed about loyalty forged through shared streets, setbacks, and ambition. In his conversation with Shannon Sharpe, the Compton rapper reflected on a moment with former NBA All-Star Baron Davis that has stayed with him over the years, one that came during a difficult period in his life and continues to resonate.

A Ride to the Dealership That Meant More Than It Seemed

According to The Game, the day started casually. Baron Davis, fresh off signing with the Charlotte Hornets early in his NBA career, told him to tag along to a dealership. Davis mentioned he was buying a Range Rover and casually added that The Game would be getting one too.

At the time, it didn’t seem life-altering. Just two guys from Los Angeles moving through a space they once could only imagine. By the end of the visit, both drove off in brand-new Range Rovers, paid for by Davis.

“BD [Baron Davis], helped me out, though he bought he gave me a range he was going to get a Range Rover. Told me, if I came with him, he would give me a Range Rover. He was like, man, we can get to it. And so we went down there. BD, when he was playing for Charlotte,” said The Game.

“I grew up with Baron Davis, Gilbert Arenas, Tyson Chandler, like these, yeah, all my homies went to the NBA, except me…Yeah, he took me, not took me. We went together to [the] Range Rover dealership. We left with two Range Rovers, and he gave me 100,000 man.”

It was a flex, sure, but not the empty kind. It was personal.

The Extra Gesture That Changed Everything

What made the story heavier was not the vehicle but what came after. The Game revealed that Davis handed him $100,000 in cash, in addition to the car purchase.

The reason was more important than the amount.

The rapper never asked Davis why he bought him the Range Rover or gifted him the $100K, but he believed it was because he was proud of him.

“Because he was proud of me, you know, because BD grew up in, you know, in seven, I think seven nine swans, which is a blood neighborhood, and he went to, no, I went to Fremont for a little bit, which is the High School in Baron Davis neighborhood where he grew up. But of course, he went to Crossroads [in Santa Monica],” shared The Game.

“But I think it was, I never even asked him why he did it, I think. But I for real, think that it was just because he was proud of me.”

The Game chose music over street life, demonstrating a commitment to building something meaningful despite constant temptation and pressure. For someone from the same Los Angeles environment, that affirmation held a value beyond money.

The timing of the gesture made it more emotional. The Game admitted he went through about $1 million buying for himself and others after signing a deal with Aftermath and Dr. Dre. He didn’t frame it as a sob story or excuse, just a hard truth about where his headspace was at the time. It was about being seen in a moment of vulnerability, when pride could have kept him silent.

The Game described the moment as humbling rather than empowering. Accepting help, especially from someone who knew exactly where he came from, urged him to reflect.
