The Houston Texans have now won six games in a row, surging back into the playoff hunt after a shaky start to the season. Backed by a favorable remaining schedule, Houston’s postseason outlook is brighter than ever.
What Are The Texans’ Playoff Chances?
After starting the season 0-3, including a loss against the Jaguars, it seemed like the lack of a competent offensive line was finally going to catch up to Houston.
As they tried to battle their way back to 3-5, any hopes seemed vanquished when C.J. Stroud went down with an injury that ultimately kept him out for three weeks. But thanks to the No. 1 defense in the league (according to PFSN’s Defense Impact metric) and the solid play of Davis Mills, the Texans were able to go on a four-game winning streak.
Now, after a blowout victory over the Arizona Cardinals, the Texans have won six straight and are in a terrific position to make the playoffs. According to PFSN’s Playoff Predictor, the Texans now have a 90.9% chance of making the playoffs and a 40.8% chance of winning their division.
In Week 16, the Texans will face the Las Vegas Raiders with a good chance to keep their winning streak alive.
Unfortunately for Houston, the Jacksonville Jaguars also took care of business and won against the Jets in Week 15. With the Jaguars winning, the Texans will have a 93.6% chance of making the playoffs and 39.2% division odds if the Seattle Seahawks beat the Indianapolis Colts today. If the Colts win, Houston will have 86.2% playoff odds and a 35.7% chance of winning the division.
While the Colts are not much of a threat after losing Daniel Jones to a season-ending injury, the Jaguars are on a four-game winning streak and playing some inspiring football as well.
The path won’t be easy, but Houston remains firmly in control of its destiny. With consistency and sharper execution down the stretch, the Texans have every opportunity to punch their ticket to the postseason. Houston is clearly playing their best football at the perfect time, so they are a team that other squads won’t want to face in the postseason. The Texans have an elite defense and an offense that has been clicking as of late, so they could make some noise come playoff time.
