Chris Paul announced over the summer that he plans to retire after the 2025-26 season. He then signed with the Los Angeles Clippers to spend his final season in the NBA.
However, due to complicated circumstances between Paul and the team, the Clippers cut him off, ending his retirement tour abruptly. How is CP3 dealing with his current situation?
Chris Paul Opens Up About Clippers’ Decision to Send Him Home
Throughout Paul’s 21-year career, he has established himself as one of the best point guards the NBA has seen, earning the moniker “Point God”. Many teams desired to have him on their roster, which is why it was shocking to learn that the Clippers let go of Paul this season.
While the situation is complicated, CP3 seems to be at peace with his circumstances. During a recent interview with PEOPLE, Paul explained how he took the news of getting fired and what he’s been up to since leaving the team.
“I don’t regret anything,” Paul said. “I was in Atlanta with a whole bunch of family. It was my last time gonna be playing there. That’s life. The whole thing took on a life of its own, you know? But I’m excited to be back here with my family.
“I’m actually at peace with everything,” Paul continued. “More than anything, I’m excited about being around and getting a chance to play a small role in whatever anything looks like next.”
Despite his current circumstances, Paul fully intends to finish his retirement tour. According to reports, CP3 is actively searching for other teams that would be interested in acquiring him once he officially enters free agency.
While the Clippers have already made the decision to let go of the veteran guard, he hasn’t been officially waived by the team. Paul will be eligible to sign with another team on Dec. 15 if the Clippers don’t decide to trade him instead.
Some might be wondering if other NBA teams would want to pick Paul up, especially after what took place between him and the Clippers. Fortunately for CP3, there are several suitors interested in him.
The Los Angeles Lakers seem to be the frontrunners in acquiring Paul this season. Signing with the Lakers makes sense for Paul. The veteran guard would still be able to reside in Los Angeles, where his family currently lives. Then there’s LeBron James, a close friend of Paul’s whom he has never teamed up with in his career.
