LeBron James Returns to Form With Explosive Performance

The basketball world buzzed on Dec. 5 when James’ nearly two-decade-long streak of double-digit scoring came to a close. Against the Toronto Raptors, he finished with just eight points on 4-for-17 shooting, a shocking sight for a player whose consistency has defined his career.

Yet even in that moment, James prioritized the right play over personal milestones. With the final possession in his hands, he passed up a contested shot and swung the ball to Rui Hachimura, who drained a game-winning 3 at the buzzer. It was classic James — unselfish, smart, and team-first.

James then sat out the next game against the Boston Celtics due to a lingering sciatica issue. Without him, Luka Dončić, and Marcus Smart, the Lakers fell 105–126 to the Celtics, underscoring just how much stability and shot-making James provides.

Back on the court against the red-hot 76ers, James wasted no time rewriting the narrative. The league’s leading scorer exploded for 29 points on remarkably efficient shooting of 12 of 17 from the field and 4 of 6 from 3. He also added seven rebounds and six assists.

It was only his second game of the season with 25 or more points, yet it served as a powerful reminder that, even at this stage of his career, he remains capable of delivering elite performances when they matter most.

He delivered a dominant stretch in the fourth quarter, scoring 10 consecutive points to put away the 76ers. The final basket prompted James to showcase his signature celebrations.

The 40-year-old has been managing a sciatica nerve issue since preseason, causing him to miss the first 14 games and start the year with a modest 14-point scoring average. But against the 76ers, he shifted gears completely, shedding rust and reasserting himself as an offensive force.

The Lakers needed every bit of his resurgence. Behind the combined 60-point explosion from Dončić and James, Los Angeles edged the 76ers 112–108, improving to 17–6 and holding firm in second place in the Western Conference.

Their next test awaits on Wednesday, Dec. 10, when they face Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs. But with LeBron’s rhythm restored, the Lakers’ confidence is swelling again.
