The Golden State Warriors, after dropping two games in a row, finally got back in the win column with a 99-94 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers. Pat Spencer stood at the center of it all. He led the Warriors with 19 points and sparked a much-needed victory. His big night not only lifted Golden State on the court. But it also led to a blunt, NSFW-style admission from head coach Steve Kerr after the game.
Steve Kerr Had a Unique Praise for Pat Spencer After the Game
Kerr did not hold back in his praise after the win. The Warriors coach said Spencer has turned himself into a real threat from three. According to him, this change has opened up the floor for everyone else.
Kerr pointed out that defenses can no longer ignore Spencer on the perimeter. It is because it creates driving lanes and better shots for his teammates. He also praised Spencer in a way that no one in the room had expected.
“He’s really improved his jumpshot. Last year, he would turn down a lot of threes, drive in, and shoot a lot of floaters. He’s never gonna be Steph, but he’s a threat out there. That’s what it takes.”
“You have to be a threat from the line to be able to pull the defense out. I just think the shot quality, now, that we’re getting with him on the floor, is way better than it was the last couple of years. .. The other thing is his coach realized Pat is that m*********r. That became clear,” said Kerr during the postgame interview.
Spencer first made his name as a college lacrosse star before fully switching his focus to basketball. Golden State first brought him into the organization in July 2022. At that time Spencer signed an Exhibit 10 deal after he went undrafted in 2020.
His hard work paid off on February 22, 2024. It was when he earned a two-way contract with the Warriors. In March 2025, the Warriors showed even more faith in Spencer. It was by upgrading his two-way deal into a standard NBA contract. Later, in September, he signed another two-way contract to return to Golden State, keeping his journey with the franchise alive.
Spencer made the most of his opportunity on Saturday night as he shot 7/12 from the field along with 3/4 from beyond the arc. He also grabbed four rebounds and dished out seven assists.
Stephen Curry is currently out. It is due to a left quadriceps contusion. So Spencer took on a leading role and directed the squad. But he did not do it alone. Gui Santos chipped in 14 points, while Buddy Hield added 13 points, and they both provided key support on the offensive end.
Now, attention turns to what comes next. The Warriors’ next game is against the Chicago Bulls on December 7, and all eyes will be on Spencer to see if he can back up this breakout performance.
