Longtime LeBron James Critic Skip Bayless Slams Lakers Star After 1st Sub-10-Point Game in Nearly 19 Years

Following LeBron James' 8-point game against the Raptors, Skip Bayless chose to call out the Lakers star's lackluster stats.

If there’s someone who has repeatedly called out LeBron James, it’s longtime commentator Skip Bayless. Bayless has been consistently critical of James’ game, even arguing with his fan base about naming him ‘King James’. Of course, with James’ 10+ points streak coming to an end, Bayless ended up commenting on his current performance.

On Thursday, the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Toronto Raptors 123-120 to extend their regular-season record to an impressive 16-5. And while Austin Reaves shone through with 44 points, James — with a solid 11 assists — finished the game with eight points.

Skip Bayless Teases Lakers Fans After LeBron James’ Double-Digit Streak Comes to an End

Bayless was quick to highlight the broken streak on Twitter (now X), writing: “LEBRICK JAMES: Finally held under 10 after again and again barely surviving. At Toronto, he went 4-17 and 0-5 WITHOUT LUKA. Undrafted Austin Reaves: 44! Lakers win in spite of the ‘King.'”

Though the focus was on the Lakers’ win without Luka Dončić, Bayless pointed out James’ lackluster stats. This was the first time James scored under 10 since January 5, 2007.

Fan reactions were a missed bag. Some users agreed with Bayless, pointing out that James was ‘no king’. They even urged the 40-year-old to retire, reigniting the old ‘washed’ debate.

A few loyal fans, though, couldn’t help but call out Bayless. They pointed out James’ longevity, which has enabled him to play at a high level for 23 consecutive seasons. Though players can walk away with better stats, many reiterated that it’s not easy to do so consistently.

Having said that, it’s difficult to overlook James’ rough start to the 2025-26 season. The 21-time NBA All-Star was sidelined for weeks after his sciatica diagnosis, further slowing his game. Over the course of six games, James has been averaging 15.2 points, four rebounds, and 7.2 assists, while shooting 46% from the field and 31.8% from the three-point line.

Though the season has months to conclude, this is indeed James’ lowest average yet.

While Bayless and other fans continue to discuss James’ winning streak, James remained focused on his team’s victory. When asked about his thoughts on his streak breaking, James said, “None, we won.”

He gave up a scoring chance to pass to teammate Rui Hachimura, reiterating that he wanted to make the right play. “Just playing the game the right way. You always make the right play,” James added. “That’s just been my M.O. That’s how I was taught the game. I’ve done that my whole career.”

Lakers head coach JJ Redick backed the veteran, telling media and fans that James was well aware of the points he had.

The Lakers (16-5) will face the Boston Celtics for their next game on Friday, December 5.
