LeBron James has long established himself as one of the greatest players in NBA history. But along with his high level of play and on-court prowess, it’s James’ longevity that stands out. The Los Angeles Lakers star has been consistent for over two decades, a feat that is almost impossible to achieve.
But with the 40-year-old’s body finally catching up with him, James finally broke his 1,297-game 10-point scoring streak. However, the loss of a streak has only put James’ dominance in perspective.
Wild LeBron James Stat Puts Lakers Star’s Dominance in Perspective After Years-Long Scoring Streak Comes to an End
The Lakers’ 123-120 win against the Toronto Raptors came with James’ scoring only eight points in 36 minutes. It ended his streak of 1,297 straight games with 10+ points, a clear indicator of James’ rocky start to the campaign.
However, as per a recent report, no one can encroach on James’ record just yet.
“With LeBron’s streak of 1,297 consecutive games with 10+ points snapped, the next two longest active streaks are KD at 267 & SGA 170. So, if SGA never misses a game, and hits 10+ every night, he can catch LeBron early in the 2039-2040 season when he’s 41 years old. Good Luck!” Nick Wright of Fox Sports 1 wrote.
With the Houston Rockets’ Kevin Durant being at 267, and OKC Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander at 170, there’s little chance someone reaches a number as high as James.
According to Wright, Gilgeous-Alexander will have to be consistent for decades before he can surpass his record.
Furthermore, fans also highlighted San Antonio Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama as a possible candidate to pass the four-time NBA champion. However, ESPN Insights confirmed that Wembanyama was all but three years old the last time James failed to score 10 or more points.
However, another report further confirmed that the only players active the last time James scored below 10 points were Mike Conley, Kevin Durant, Jeff Green, Al Horford, Kyle Lowry, and Chris Paul. Additionally, there are only 24 other NBA players who have played in 1,297 regular-season games.
James Had an Epic Three-Word Response After the Lakers’ Win vs. the Raptors
After the game, the media reached out to ask James about his broken double-digit streak.
James, however, had the perfect response. “None,” James said post-game. “We won.”
While the 21-time NBA All-Star could have tried to win with 10+ points to his name, James ended up passing to teammate Rui Hachimura in the final minutes.
James explained his thought process, focusing on playing the game “the right way”. No matter what’s at stake, James emphasized that he has learned to make the right call, regardless of the circumstances.
This season, James is currently averaging 15.2 points, four rebounds, and 7.2 assists while shooting 46% from the field.
The Lakers (16-5) will face the Boston Celtics for their next game on Friday, December 5.
