76ers vs Warriors Prediction: Preview, How to Watch, Injury Updates and More

Warriors open East road trip in Philly without Stephen Curry as Tyrese Maxey leads 76ers. Key injuries, matchups and how each team can respond.

The Golden State Warriors (11-11) open a three-game Eastern Conference road trip Thursday in Philadelphia, where the 76ers (11-9) will lean on Tyrese Maxey’s offensive fireworks to exploit a Golden State roster missing Stephen Curry. Curry remains out with a right quadriceps contusion and muscle strain, an injury sustained against the Houston Rockets on Nov. 26 that has sidelined him for multiple games and is expected to keep him off the floor for at least three more contests.

With Curry unavailable, the Warriors have added backcourt depth through Seth Curry, who scored 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting in his debut Tuesday, and De’Anthony Melton, who is returning from a torn ACL. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. ET at Xfinity Mobile Arena, with coverage on NBC Sports Bay Area and NBC Sports Philadelphia.

Can Maxey Continue His Elite Scoring Run?

Tyrese Maxey has emerged as the clear focal point for Philadelphia, averaging 32.5 points per game and ranking third in the league in scoring behind only Luka Dončić and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Maxey is one of just five players this season averaging at least 30 points per game on a true shooting percentage above 60%, joining that group alongside elite company. He has posted 44 and 35 points in his last two outings and leads the league in fast break points with 115 this season, reflecting his ability to push tempo and attack in transition.

The 76ers rank 15th in both offensive and defensive rating, placing them near the middle of the league in efficiency, yet Maxey’s production has kept them competitive at 11-9 and ninth in the Eastern Conference.

Philadelphia’s injury situation remains fluid. Joel Embiid is listed as doubtful with bilateral knee issues and has appeared in only one recent game, while Kelly Oubre Jr. is out with a left knee sprain, Trendon Watford is unavailable due to a left adductor strain, Paul George is questionable with left knee injury recovery, and Quentin Grimes is questionable with right calf tightness.

Golden State enters at 11-11 overall and just 4-8 on the road, with their offense ranked 23rd in the league in offensive rating while their defense sits seventh. The absence of Curry strips the Warriors of their primary offensive engine and forces increased responsibility onto Jimmy Butler III, who posted 24 points, eight rebounds, and 10 assists in a recent win over the Pelicans but is now listed as questionable with left knee soreness.

Brandin Podziemski has stepped up with consecutive performances of 15 and 17 points, while Pat Spencer provided an unexpected lift with 17 points and six assists in Tuesday’s loss to the Thunder. The Warriors are 1-4 against Eastern Conference opponents this season and have lost all four of their road games against the conference, a trend they will need to reverse without their star point guard.

Seth Curry and Melton both played for the 76ers in previous stints, with Curry averaging 13.6 points and shooting 42.6 percent from three over two seasons from 2020-22, and Melton averaging 10.4 points and shooting 37.9 percent from deep over two seasons from 2022-24.

76ers vs Golden State Warriors Prediction

The Warriors and 76ers are both middle-of-the-pack teams this season. While the Warriors’ ceiling is easier to predict, it’s not as cut and dry for the Sixers, who have yet to be at full strength, with Jared McCain missing the start of the season and Paul George and Joel Embiid in and out of the lineup.

It’s been an up-and-down season for both teams so far. Golden State features a top-10 defense, but its offense ranks in the bottom 10 in efficiency. Philadelphia has been the definition of average on both ends of the floor, and the two teams have nearly identical net ratings on the year.

Steph Curry and Jimmy Butler are the engines for Golden State, but at 37 and 36, respectively, Steve Kerr will need more consistent contributions from the supporting cast. As for Philadelphia, it’s the Tyrese Maxey show. The Kentucky product is enjoying a career year, averaging 32.5 points, 7.5 assists, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.6 steals.

Curry is out for this matchup, while Butler, George, Embiid, and Jonathan Kuminga are all listed as questionable. With so much uncertainty, we’ll lean toward the team with its best player available.

76ers vs Golden State Warriors Prediction: 76ers 113, Warriors 112
