Draymond Green Admits Western Contenders Are ‘On the Right Track’ to Beating Warriors’ Iconic 73-9 Record

Here's what Draymond Green had to say about the chances of the Golden State Warriors' 73-9 record being broken this season.

Draymond Green was recently forced to admit that another team has the potential to break a record that the Golden State Warriors have held for almost a full decade. As the majority of the basketball community is aware, Green is a veteran star for the Warriors and has won four NBA championships throughout his career. In fact, Green played a pivotal role in the Warriors’ historic 73-9 record during the 2015-2016 NBA season.

By achieving this impressive milestone, the Warriors surpassed the Chicago Bulls, led by Michael Jordan, who had gone 72-10 under the NBA legend. While many fans may have assumed that no other team would be able to surpass this record, the Oklahoma City Thunder’s incredible start to the 2025-2026 NBA season has even Green wondering if they will be able to beat the Warriors’ record.

Draymond Green Admits That the OKC Thunder Can Surpass the Golden State Warriors Dynasty

Even before convincing Kevin Durant to leave the OKC Thunder, the Warriors were already viewed as title contenders. After all, they managed to crush almost every team in their path during the 2015-2016 NBA season. While the Warriors managed to remain victorious all the way to the NBA Finals, they ultimately blew a 3-1 lead to LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Although the postseason may not have concluded as expected, there is no denying the incredible success that the Warriors found almost exactly a decade ago. As things stand, the OKC Thunder currently holds a stunning record of 21-1. This suggests that they will finish the season with a better record than the prime Warriors if the Thunder can maintain their current pace.

Perhaps it would be in Green’s best interests to dismiss the success of the OKC Thunder. However, the Warriors veteran was unable to do the same. During a recent interview following a loss to the defending champions, the Warriors veteran had no choice but to admit that the current Thunder squad has a chance to surpass his old team.

“Its hard man. but I do think they’re capable. You just need so many things to go right though….You need a lot of breaks to go your way but they’re on the right track and like what I said…They’re more than capable.”

Green then took a trip down memory lane to the 2015-2016 season and joked that it took a few years off his life. If the OKC Thunder can maintain their pace and get the job done in the postseason, some fans might argue that they have a better team than the Warriors’ past dynasty.
