The New York Knicks have been going at a steady pace so far this season. While the team’s current standing does not yet match the level of success achieved last year, it can still be regarded as stable and promising.
Having reached the Eastern Conference finals last season, the Knicks are aiming to replicate that accomplishment and, ideally, advance further in pursuit of a championship. The pressing question now is what course of action would best position them to achieve that ultimate goal.
An NBA insider suggests that the Knicks could explore a blockbuster trade, which could turn their season around completely.
Knicks Reportedly Willing to Contact Mavericks For a Blockbuster Trade
NBA insider Ian Begley reported that the Knicks may explore negotiations with the Dallas Mavericks regarding a potential trade for Anthony Davis.
According to Dallas reporter Grant Afseth, the Mavericks remain willing to work with Davis’ camp over the next several months of the season. Following that period, the organization will re-evaluate the star big man’s role and position within the team.
If the Mavericks were to make Davis available, Begley contends that the most prudent move for the Knicks would be to acquire the star big man — but only if Dallas were willing to part with him at a below-market value. In essence, Begley argues that the trade would be worthwhile if New York could absorb his $175,369,698 contract in exchange for assets that would not compromise the team’s pursuit of a championship.
“I’m sure the Knicks would at least check in with Dallas if/when Anthony Davis becomes available,” Begley reported. “You may scoff at the idea, but the Knicks want to win a title this season. If Dallas is offering Davis at a below-market cost, I’m sure the Knicks will at least give the move some thought.”

Adding a defender of his caliber would undoubtedly help reinforce the Knicks’ paint. Davis and Karl-Anthony Towns would serve as the team’s twin towers, which opposing teams would most likely have a difficult time getting past.
Despite all the risks the Knicks could face if they trade for Davis, he is still a force to be reckoned with. At 32 years old, Davis is averaging All-Star numbers, putting up 20.8 points, 10.2 rebounds, 1.6 steals, and 1.2 blocks in the five games he played this season.
