The Golden State Warriors have caught quite a few bad breaks since the season started. They have been hit with injuries from every direction and are pushing through a six-game road swing, where they sit at 3-2 through the first five matchups. That trip wraps up with tonight’s game against the Miami Heat.
As Jimmy Butler’s previous team, there were bound to be some emotional stakes in light of their game against the Warriors. However, Golden State just got some bad news on Butler’s second game against his former team since the team acquired him in February.

What’s the Latest Update on Warriors Star Jimmy Butler?
ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on NBA Today that Butler will not play for the Warriors in their game against the Heat.

Butler is joining an extensive Warriors injury report, which includes the likes of Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Al Horford. In other words, Golden State is going to be quite undermanned when it goes up against the Heat.
However, it’s not like the Heat will have their full roster. Tyler Herro, who made his first All-Star team last year, has yet to play this season. Bam Adebayo has also been absent for the past several games, but the Heat confirmed on their official X account that he is questionable for their game against the Warriors.
This is hardly the scenario Golden State envisioned entering the season, but it is an inherent risk of relying on one of the NBA’s oldest rosters. While Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler remain high-level contributors, their age increases the likelihood of injury.
For now, the Warriors appear to be managing the situation, with most injuries considered day-to-day and not expected to pose long-term concerns. Still, the status of key players will be critical as the postseason approaches. If any are unavailable during the playoffs, it would significantly diminish the team’s chances of contending for another championship.
Another way these injuries can affect what happens this season is their impact on seeding. This is the Western Conference, after all. There are plenty of teams vying for a title. The Warriors have had their reign of dominance, but they are definitely not the consensus first choice to emerge from the conference.
That shift is due not only to the rise of other talented teams, but also to the relative durability of those rosters compared to Golden State’s. Even if the injury bug subsides, it may not be gone for good.
