There’s no easy way to describe the aftermath of Luka Dončić’s trade to the Los Angeles Lakers. Fans ended up protesting to fire former general manager Nico Harrison — who seemed to be the orchestrator of the move.
And while fans eventually got what they wanted after Harrison was fired, there’s no way to turn back the clock and stop Dončić’s move. However, with the Slovenian star settled in LA, one can’t help but wonder about a possible return to Dallas.
Lakers Star Luka Dončić Speaks on Eventual Return to the Dallas Mavericks
After Harrison’s recent firing, the media was quick to ask Dončić about the situation. Previously upset about the shocking move, Dončić has worked hard to begin anew with the Lakers.
However, despite the controversial situation, Dončić didn’t shut down the possibility right away. But since a possible future reunion is a long shot, Dončić is only focused on his time and goals with the Lakers.

“Right now, I’m just focused on the Lakers. No further comments,” Dončić told the media.
Having said that, the 26-year-old hasn’t forgotten what the Mavericks and the fans meant to him. Speaking on Dallas, Dončić explained: “Dallas, fans, players, always have a special place in my heart. I thought I was going to stay there forever, but I didn’t. They’ll always be a special place for me. I can always call it home.”
Spending his entire career with the team, Dončić was meant to be a franchise player. Many banked on him to bring the title to Dallas again, and were beyond shocked when the trade was announced in February.
Dončić has dealt with the change with grace, all the while making sure he conveys how tough the trade was. He even admitted to throwing his phone and cracking it, unable to believe the news at first.
Mavericks Owner Saw Luka Dončić’s Trade as a ‘Mistake’
In an earlier report, NBA insider Shams Charania shed some light on what Mavericks own Patrick Dumont thought of Dončić’s trade. As fans chanted ‘fire Nico’ insistently, there was little to answer — especially as the Mavericks fell to a disappointing 3-9 start.
As per Charania, Dumont accepted accountability and labelled it as a ‘mistake’ on their part.
And while firing Harrison might not he the ultimate fix, it could be a start to propelling the Mavericks in the right direction. Currently, without Kyrie Irving, the team is relying on P.J. Washington and rookie Cooper Flagg.
Dončić, on his end, is averaging 34.9 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 8.9 assists this season while shooting 47.6% from the field.
