Former Dallas Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison was fired on Tuesday by team owner Patrick Dumont. This has a lot to do with the underwhelming start the Mavericks have had so far in the 2025-26 season, after 11 games. Clearly, the team is heading in a different direction, and there are rumors that Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki could be in the picture.
Fans Respond to Rumors of Dirk Nowitzki Potentially Joining Mavericks Front Office
The NBA world is buzzing after the abrupt release of Harrison on Tuesday. Many are wondering what’s next for the Mavericks and how they plan to salvage what’s left of the 2025-26 season. With that said, there could be some much-needed reinforcements coming their way this year, as rumors suggest that Mavericks legend Nowitzki could join the team’s front office in the near future.
In a recent episode of “Run It Back”, former NBA star Chandler Parsons predicted that Nowitzki will soon join the Mavericks’ front office now that Harrison is out of the picture. Parsons believes that the German legend would undoubtedly bring back the culture the team once had when he was still playing.
“I think Dirk will be more involved without Nico Harrison in Dallas,” Parsons predicted. “They can get back to the culture they had before when they had success.”
Fans on social media couldn’t help but express their excitement about the possibility of the NBA legend coming back to Dallas as an executive. Here’s what some fans said on X:
“HIRE DIRK ASAP,” one fan exclaimed.

“Now the question becomes who replaces Nico Harrison. As discussed on the pod, there’s been some league chatter about Jason Kidd potentially moving into a front office role. The Mavs need someone to rebuild relationship w/fan base–and maybe bring Dirk Nowitzki back into the fold,” one fan noted.

“Biggest Dirk fan here. We had like 3 truly good seasons during Dirk’s tenure. The rest were middling because Cuban and Donnie Nelson refused to pay guys. This narrative that Mavs has a dynastic type culture is insane. The team has mostly sucked during its existence,” another fan said.

Nowitzki played for 21 seasons with the Mavericks in his NBA career. He breathes and bleeds Dallas and knows what the Texas crowd loves. If he ends up working in the front office, there could be a familiar feeling that could help boost the team’s morale.
