Mavericks Owner Patrick Dumont Boldly Snubs Media After Firing Nico Harrison, Refuses to Address Luka Dončić Trade

The Dallas Mavericks just fired GM Nico Harrison, but it seems like owner Patrick Dumont will not be speaking to media anytime soon.

The Dallas Mavericks may have stumbled badly by trading away a generational talent like Luka Dončić, but that chapter’s closed. What matters now is how they move forward. And judging by recent moves, Patrick Dumont and Mark Cuban already had one coming for Nico Harrison.

Will Patrick Dumont Speak to the Media After Firing Nico Harrison?

It’s hard for anyone to speak on behalf of Dumont because he’s either all for it or against it. In a blunt letter to Mavericks fans, Dumont mentioned that the expectations were not being met, which led to the abrupt decision.

He said, “When the results don’t meet expectations it is my responsibility to act.”

The results were clear: A 3-8 record to start. It started with that. But then the patience wore out. And then, finally, in Dumont’s words, the decision was made to ensure that the franchise moves forward in a positive direction.

Typically, when a franchise fires a general manager, a press conference is held to address questions or introduce a replacement. However, it appears that won’t be the case for the Mavericks when they have other matters to focus on.

NBA insider Marc Stein reports, “Dumont is not holding a news conference to field questions about Harrison’s ouster or the past nine months post-Dončić but sent a letter to Mavericks fans.”

It does come as a bold decision by Dumont to avoid the media at the moment. Another interesting point to note is that he has not mentioned the Dončić trade at all in the letter, nor the backlash that followed. But one fan backed Dumont’s case.

“Basically, Patrick was like, he feels horrible for the trade and wants to make it up to us,” Nicholas Dickason told The Athletic. The apology came before the Mavericks fired GM Nico Harrison on Tuesday. According to MFFL Nation, Dumont doubled down on his remorse, admitting he made a mistake and saying he’s determined to win back the fans.

Fans even chanted “Fire Nico” during recent Mavericks games, which may have factored into Harrison’s dismissal. The frustration around the franchise has been brewing for weeks, and Dumont’s silence hasn’t helped his case.

Though he didn’t address the chants or the front-office chaos in his letter, he’s surely aware that avoiding the spotlight won’t make the noise go away. A media appearance might be his next move. Bt whether he’s ready to face those questions head-on is something only time will tell.
