Tyrese Maxey is off to a scorching hot start in the 2025-26 season. While we’re still a long way from the regular season’s conclusion, Maxey is on track to achieve a career-high in averages. This is mainly due to his efficiency on the floor so far. As a result, he now joins an NBA legend as the only two players in history to accomplish this feat.

Tyrese Maxey Makes History With His Superb Performances
Two seasons ago, Maxey had his breakout season and became an All-Star for the first time in his career. While he missed the All-Star game last year, he still put up similar numbers to his first All-Star year. Fast forward to the present day, and it appears that he could make it back to the All-Star game this season, hopefully notching his second selection.
Maxey achieved a historic feat on Sunday when the Philadelphia 76ers took on the Detroit Pistons. The Sixers guard is now one of the only two players in NBA history to have opened a season putting up 25+ points and 5+ assists in 10 straight games. The only other player to achieve this feat is a fellow Sixers legend, Allen Iverson.
Going up against the Pistons, the Sixers fell slightly short on Sunday. Despite the loss, Maxey put up incredible numbers, adding 33 points, seven assists, four rebounds, and two steals.
His best game was arguably when the Sixers took on the Orlando Magic on Oct. 27. Maxey scored a season-high 43 points while adding eight assists, four rebounds, and one steal. He then scored 39 points on two separate occasions, once against the Washington Wizards and again against the Chicago Bulls.
Looking at Maxey’s numbers so far this season, he’s been producing the best performances across the board. Maxey is currently averaging 33.2 points, 8.2 assists, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.2 steals. Despite Joel Embiid’s presence, Maxey has outshone the former MVP. Having that in mind, it wouldn’t be surprising if Maxey’s name pops up in the MVP race this season.
Before losing to the Pistons on Sunday, the Sixers were among the top three teams in the Eastern Conference. Philadelphia even led the conference, sitting in first place at one point. If Maxey can manage to lead his team to at least the top four in the East this season, his case for MVP might become a reality.
After the loss to the Pistons, Maxey said, “I think we’ve done pretty good. We’ve had three back-to-backs. The back-to-backs are always difficult, but we go out there to fight every single game. I don’t think there’s been one game — the Cavs we lost by double digits — but I don’t think there’s been one game where we just kinda just folded and gave them a game. We went out there and fought all 48 minutes.”
