NBA Insider Reveals ‘Internal Disagreement’ Between Anthony Davis and Mavs Owner Pat Dumont

NBA Insider Reveals "internal disagreement" between ownership and Anthony Davis with Nico Harrison's future as GM in serious doubt.

What is going on with the Dallas Mavericks? Struggling near the bottom of the Western Conference, the team has clearly struggled offensively since the highly questionable and controversial Luka Dončić trade.

Now, ownership is overruling the player they acquired in the deal, Anthony Davis, and presumably the GM regarding his injury management.

NBA Insider Throws Nico Harrison’s Future As GM in Serious Doubt

According to an NBA insider with knowledge of the Mavericks, ownership intervened regarding Anthony Davis’s status, who wanted to play against the Washington Wizards this past Saturday but ultimately sat out.

Just 10 games into the season, GM Nico Harrison is facing fresh calls for his job from fans. Regarding Harrison’s job security, it’s increasingly clear that all is not well in Dallas, and ownership may have had enough.

According to NBA insider Tim MacMahon, things aren’t too rosy within the Mavericks due to an “internal disagreement.”

“Anthony Davis wanted to play Saturday in Washington…There was internal disagreement about whether that was a good idea…One of the opinions that was involved here was Patrick Dumont. Patrick Dumont went from blind faith in Nico to weighing in on whether a star can come back from injury.”

Davis wanted to play against the Wizards, but Harrison wanted him out there; ultimately, he did not play. One of the dissenting voices was the owner, Patrick Dumont, preferring a more patient approach to Davis’ calf injury. This seems wise, considering the importance of Davis on the court and taking into account the player’s age and long-standing injury history.

“When, Not If, Nico Harrison Will Be Fired”

Usually, when ownership deviates from the GM’s decisions, the GM’s position becomes untenable sooner rather than later. Ultimately, team results will decide Harrison’s fate. MacMahon weighed in on the GM’s future, saying the owner and GM’s relationship has broken down and “It’s a matter of when, not if, Nico Harrison will be fired.”

Possibly, this latest development, which the ESPN insider described as a “Major, major development,” could be the last straw that pushes ownership to decide on Harrison’s future in the near future.

McMahon added, “There were people with the Mavericks medical staff who were saying, ‘We can not rush this guy back.’ Dumont certainly agreed with that. Ultimately, I was told everyone was on the same page…The fact Dumont is involved in that sort of decision-making is a major, major development.”

The Dončić-for-Davis trade is looking like a spectacular misfire for Harrison. Davis has been available in far fewer than half of the Mavs’ games due to injury since the trade. Meanwhile, Dončić is lighting up the scoreboard over in Los Angeles. Dumont may wish to move on from Harrison, who made that trade, and they may want to deal Davis at some point if things don’t improve quickly.
