Jayson Tatum Makes Honest Confession About Returning From Achilles Injury

Here's what Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum said when asked about his present thoughts on his Achilles tendon recovery process.

Jayson Tatum caught the attention of the Boston Celtics fanbase by discussing the current status of his rehabilitation process following his Achilles injury several months ago, when the Celtics matched up against the New York Knicks in the second round of the playoffs last season, looking to defend their position as NBA champions.

Not only did the Celtics fail to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals, but Tatum ruptured his right Achilles tendon towards the end of the series. This led to questions about his future with the team, and the offseason saw several key Celtics players traded away.

As the Celtics currently hold a record of one win and three losses, many are eager to know more about Tatum’s recovery process and potential return to the team towards the end of this season.

Is Jayson Tatum Ready To Rejoin the Boston Celtics?

Although Tatum is likely nowhere close to competing at an NBA level, footage of him engaging in various high-level basketball drills during a private workout has reassured the Celtics’ fanbase that his return this season is not completely off the table.

Tatum was using crutches and struggling to move around in the aftermath of his surgery. During a recent interview, the Celtics’ franchise cornerstone was asked to share an update on his recovery timetable.

“I’ve been working my bu** off for the last 24 weeks now, just trying to get healthy and trying to get 100% and it’s just something that motivates me. Every day I go to rehab and workout and I’m on the court. It’s something I can get to like a goal, you know, challenging myself every day.”

Given that the season has just begun, Tatum is progressing ahead of pace and has already started practicing and conditioning. While he may have a long way to go before confidently returning, Tatum’s comeback might just take place sooner than expected.

While fans assumed that Jaylen Brown would be able to step up and lead the Celtics in Tatum’s absence, that is easier said than done. After all, the Celtics traded away several key players from their championship roster this offseason, meaning that Brown is leading a different version of the Celtics, notably younger and less experienced.

This team will need Tatum to return and play at full strength if it hopes to contend for an NBA championship. Not only will Tatum have to return in time for the playoffs, but he might feel tempted to speed up his recovery process even more if his team is struggling to win games and hold on to a spot in the postseason.
