With his 83rd career touchdown on Monday Night Football, Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce is inching closer to breaking the team’s all-time record. Kelce, unlike Priest Holmes, has spent his entire career in Kansas City.
He recorded his 80th receiving touchdown against the Washington Commanders, as Holmes had to sit back and watch his record be tied. In the end, he had nothing but great things to say about Kelce.
Priest Holmes Breaks Silence On Travis Kelce Tying His Record
As part of an interview with TMZ Sports, Holmes broke down precisely what he was thinking when Kelce scored on October 27, “Congratulations Travis Kelce, you’re in good company, I can definitely say that.”
He continued, “It’s pretty exciting to see what’s taking place as a phenomenon with what the Chiefs are being right now. It’s going to be pretty awesome when he goes across the threshold and gets that 84th touchdown.”
The Chiefs are indeed a phenomenon, one that starts with QB Patrick Mahomes and Kelce. Those two have run roughshod around the league for quite some time now. Even though Kelce regressed a bit last year, he’s back on pace to finish with massive numbers across the board. No one has been able to stop him this season, as he has already tied the number of touchdowns he had last season.
After the Chiefs’ slow start, Mahomes is up to a B in PFSN’s QB Impact metric. Now that his quarterback is back at a high level, it’s no secret that Kelce is going to continue to dominate. He remains one of the top tight ends in the league despite getting up there in age. At 36 years old, Kelce knows he needs just one more touchdown to set the record in Kansas City.
Kelce got off to a hot start this season with a touchdown in their opener against the Los Angeles Chargers in Brazil. It took him four more weeks to score another touchdown, but he did so against the Jacksonville Jaguars with a season-high seven receptions. Kelce put up a season-high 99 yards against the Commanders, marking his fifth consecutive game with 48+ yards.
The highly anticipated showdown between the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills takes place at 4:25 p.m. EST on CBS in Week 9. From there, the Chiefs have their Week 10 Bye before returning to action at Denver on November 16. After enjoying four of five games at home, the Chiefs must play three of their next four on the road.
