WATCH: Clippers Fans Mock Chauncey Billups’ Gambling Arrest With Brutal Chant in Win vs. Blazers

Chauncey Billups’ arrest sparks loud chants from Clippers fans as the Blazers lose 114-107 on Sunday night.

The FBI’s investigation into illegal gambling that led to the arrest of Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups has sent shockwaves through the NBA, and the fallout is far from over.

For a brief moment, it seemed the Blazers might weather the storm after securing a win against Golden State. But Sunday’s loss to the Los Angeles Clippers told a different story, as fans at Intuit Dome taunted the Blazers with a brutal chant that echoed throughout the game.

Clippers Fans Target Chauncey Billups With Savage Chant

ESPN insider Shams Charania first broke the news, reporting that Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier had been arrested as part of an ongoing FBI investigation into illegal gambling activities. Moments later, he followed up with another bombshell, confirming that Billups was also among those arrested. The NBA immediately placed both individuals on administrative leave.

Subsequent reports revealed that Billups served as a “Face Card”, helping lure players into rigged high-stakes poker games at the center of the scandal. The Trail Blazers have since appointed Tiago Splitter as interim head coach, but are still managing the fallout of an already chaotic situation.

The backlash reached new heights on Sunday night when the Blazers faced the Los Angeles Clippers at Intuit Dome. Fans relentlessly taunted the team with loud “F-B-I” chants during free throws, a moment captured by The Washington Post’s Ben Golliver, who shared a clip of the crowd on X, writing, “Clippers fans chant ‘F-B-I’ while Blazers attempt free throws in the wake of Chauncey Billups’ arrest.”

A 17-year veteran of the game, Billups was one of the best point guards of his era, winning a championship and the Finals MVP in 2004. Nicknamed “Mr. Big Shot,” he was one of the best clutch shot-makers in the history of the sport.

A celebrated career saw him make five All-Star teams before he called it quits. Shifting to a media role, he was eventually hired by Portland to be their new head coach in 2021, three years before his induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

However, his coaching future hangs in the balance amid the ongoing investigation. According to Charania, the trial is expected to begin between late November and early December, and Billups plans to fight the charges vigorously. But the legal process could stretch anywhere from six to twelve months, leaving Portland in a difficult position.

In the meantime, the Blazers are trying to move forward under Splitter, who is stepping into an NBA head coaching role for the first time. Portland fell to the Clippers 114–107 on Sunday night and will look to regroup quickly as they face the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday.
