The Denver Nuggets looked sharp through the preseason, but their regular-season debut didn’t go as planned. After winning three of their five preseason games, the Denver Nuggets opened the 2025–26 campaign with a heartbreaking (137–131) overtime loss to the Golden State Warriors on Thursday night.
But if we look back after the game, what stole the spotlight wasn’t the thrilling finish. It was an awkward on-air moment that left fans stunned.
What Was the Awkward Revelation During The “Inside the NBA” Broadcast?
During “Inside the NBA,” a stat revealed right after the game connected Aaron Gordon’s record-breaking night to none other than Terry Rozier, the NBA player currently at the center of the league’s biggest scandal.
The timing couldn’t have been more bizarre. The hottest topic in the NBA right now revolves around the shocking arrest of Miami Heat guard Rozier in connection with an alleged illegal betting operation.
Rozier’s arrest came on Thursday morning, which was just hours before the Heat’s matchup against the Orlando Magic. Though he was listed as “available” for the game, he did not play.
According to federal authorities, Rozier is suspected of involvement in suspicious betting patterns, including one professional bettor reportedly placing over 30 bets on Rozier within an hour of a 2023 regular-season game.
As Inside the NBA aired highlights from the Nuggets-Warriors clash later that night, Ernie Johnson revealed that Aaron Gordon’s 10 made three-pointers tied Rozier’s 2020 mark for the most in a season opener in NBA history.
Ernie:
“Aaron Gordon has made 10 3-pointers tonight, tying Terry Rozier in 2020 for the most in a season opener in NBA history. I kid you not.” 🤣🤣🤣

In 2020, Rozier set that record while playing for the Charlotte Hornets during the COVID-delayed 2020–21 season opener. He went 10-for-16 from deep in a 121–114 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers, a night that showcased his elite shooting touch.
On Thursday, Gordon matched that feat with his own spectacular offensive performance as he knocked down 10 threes en route to a 50-point outing. Unlike Rozier’s performance, Gordon’s efficiency was staggering as he connected on 80.5% of his field goal attempts, making it the most efficient 50-point game in NBA history. But just like Rozier in 2020, Gordon’s masterpiece also ended in defeat.
Looking at the game itself, the Nuggets appeared in control early. They led by four points after the first quarter and built the largest lead of the game of 14 points in the second period.
By halftime, Denver was up by nine and seemed poised to open the season with a statement win. However, the Warriors surged back in the second half and scored 59 points to erase the deficit and force overtime, and Golden State then dominated the extra period and outscored the Nuggets 17–11 to seal the victory.
Meanwhile, back in Miami, Rozier’s situation continues to unfold. After appearing in a Florida courtroom, he was released on bond, which was secured by his $6 million Florida home. He was ordered to surrender his passport and any firearms, and he’s also been prohibited from contacting anyone connected to the case.
As the Nuggets regroup for their next matchup against the Phoenix Suns on Saturday, October 25, fans are still talking about one of the strangest coincidences in recent memory.
