‘Terrible Coach’ – Mavericks Fans Rage Against Jason Kidd After Awful Opening Defeat

Find out what Dallas Mavericks fans had to say after hearing Jason Kidd's comments in the aftermath of the team's loss to the Spurs.

Dallas Mavericks fans were unwilling to let Jason Kidd’s comments go unnoticed after the team’s opening-night loss to the San Antonio Spurs. After trading away Luka Dončić toward the end of last season to acquire Anthony Davis, many criticized the Mavericks for turning their backs on a loyal franchise cornerstone. Although the organization dealt with a great deal of criticism, drafting Cooper Flagg instilled a sense of hope for the future.

Unfortunately, that hope took a hit following a blowout 125-92 loss at home, which is still lingering in fans’ minds. Moreover, Kidd’s statements in the postgame interview generated robust responses from the basketball community, adding fuel to the fire.

Why Are Fans Attacking Jason Kidd and the Dallas Mavericks’ Executives?

When the Mavericks unexpectedly traded Dončić, several reports emerged to help the public understand the shocking decision. Dončić’s conditioning, attitude, and mentality were all scrutinized, and the team’s general manager, Nico Harrison, took a subtle shot at him by repeatedly emphasizing that “defense wins championships.”

However, after an embarrassing loss to Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs, Kidd claimed that a lack of offense played the biggest role in the team’s inability to win. Upon hearing these statements, fans immediately called out his coaching and suggested his recent success was due to Dončić’s presence on the team.

One fan commented, “Jason Kidd is a terrible coach. His success was based off Luka.”

Others were quick to point out the hypocrisy, reminding everyone that Harrison was the one who insisted that defense was the top priority. This new emphasis on offense felt baseless to many. Another fan added, “I thought we traded our offensive juggernaut for defense wins championships ?”

It was difficult for some to hold back their sarcastic comments upon hearing the somewhat obvious statement from the Mavericks’ head coach. One fan said, “Groundbreaking insight. Give that man an extension! #FireNico”

Meanwhile, a few more level-headed fans pointed out a potential solution that was seemingly ignored during the game. They argued that Kidd should have given D’Angelo Russell more time on the court, given that he was the best facilitator for the team in the game.

One fan wrote, “Maybe start ur pg who’s the best facilitator on the team and don’t take him out for large chunks? Just a thought that I’d expect a NBA coach to understand.”

Perhaps having Russell on the court more could have aided the Mavericks’ offense. He recorded six points and three assists in just 15 minutes of action, leaving questions about what he might have accomplished with starter minutes.

In any case, Mavericks fans are not pleased with their team’s leadership. The organization must now prove its new strategy can work and ensure this early loss to the Spurs does not set the tone for the rest of the season.
