For years, Michael Jordan got to show viewers the full “Air Jordan” experience when the NBA was broadcast on NBC from 1990 to 1998. Now, Jordan will get to do his thing on NBC, but this time as a broadcast analyst.
Jordan was added as an analyst following the announcement that the NBA would broadcast games on NBC for the first time since 2002. Knowing his status as an NBA legend, many will tune into know his thoughts on the modern NBA.
How to Watch Michael Jordan’s Segment on NBA on NBC
Jordan has his own segment on NBA on NBC called “MJ: Insights to Excellence,” where he discusses various topics with co-host Mike Tirico at halftime. He is a “special contributor” to NBC’s broadcasts, and his first segment alongside Tirico aired during halftime of the 2025-26 season opener between the Houston Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder.
During the first-ever “MJ: Insights to Excellence” segments, viewers got to hear Jordan break down why he no longer plays basketball, what he misses most in retirement, why he decided to join NBC’s broadcast team, and much more. Check out Jordan’s full segment with NBC below:
“We have an obligation to pay it forward. That’s part of what this is all about.”

Next week, Jordan will be back to talk about load management in today’s NBA and why he always tried to play all 82 games in a season. “MJ: Insights to Excellence” segments will continue to air each week throughout the season on NBC and Peacock.
In his post-playing career, Jordan has been in more of a front office role, but now he gets to analyze the modern NBA.
Because of his status as a basketball legend, it would not be the least surprising if that is the broadcast’s most popular segment. It may have been five years ago, but “The Last Dance” was extremely popular back when it aired on ESPN and is still being streamed on Netflix to this day.
It goes to show how popular Jordan is over 20 years after he retired from the NBA for good. Whether viewers think he is the best basketball player of all time or not, NBC landing him as part of their broadcast team was a genius move to get fans to tune in. As if Roundball Rock wasn’t exciting enough, Jordan’s segments have fans buzzing about the NBA returning to NBC.
