Kevin Durant Claps Back At Fan After Signing $90 Million Extension With Rockets

Find out how Kevin Durant responded after fans accuse him of restricting the Rockets' financial flexibility by signing a $90 million extension.

Kevin Durant did not waste any time and rushed to clap back at fans after news about his contract extension with the Houston Rockets went viral. At 37 years old, he is viewed by many as one of the best pure scorers in league history.

Given that he had only one year remaining on his contract with the Phoenix Suns last season, many wondered about the team that would acquire Durant and whether he would be willing to sign a new contract. After reports revealed that Durant was traded to the Rockets, some wondered when he would commit to the organization.

Although Durant could have signed a new deal at any point this upcoming season, he decided to ink the deal now, which some fans criticized. While the two-time NBA champion does not need to respond to anybody on social media, he decided to do just that.

Kevin Durant Fires Back at NBA Fans Following Accusations of Greed

While Durant might just be one of the most offensively talented players of all time, he has shown himself to be quite thin-skinned and easily triggered. In fact, Durant might be the only superstar in the league who reportedly uses burner accounts to respond to his critics on social media anonymously.

When news broke out that Durant signed a two-year deal worth $90 million with the Rockets, NBA Insider Shams Charania revealed that he turned down a three-year contract for $120 million to give his new team more financial flexibility.

Even though Durant likely took a substantial pay cut in the best interests of his team, some fans pointed out that his current contract and advancing age make this decision impossible to view as an unselfish sacrifice.

Perhaps Durant was monitoring the social media waves following Charania’s report. He soon taunted the particular fan by demanding more clarification: “What would you characterize it as? Since we characterizing sh*t this morning.”

If Durant already took a noticeable pay cut and didn’t make an issue of it, one can only imagine how he feels when fans describe him as selfish for getting less than what he thinks he is worth.

Durant averaged 26.6 points, six rebounds, and 4.2 assists in the 2024-25 season. He continues to prove doubters wrong by competing at a high level at this stage of his career. Fans are left wondering if he will be able to lead the Rockets to an NBA title by the time his contract ends.
