Should You Draft Gradey Dick in Fantasy Basketball?
Gradey Dick enters his third season and is slated to fill a very different role than he did a year ago.
Thanks to a combination of injuries and trade, Dick started in all of his 54 appearances last season and that allowed him to post fantasy viable numbers for extended stretches of time (November: 17.8 points, 2.4 3PM, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.5 assists). It was good to see him pay off some of his pedigree, but if all is going right north of the border this season, Dick’s minute average probably ends up closer to what he posted as a rookie (21.1) than his second season (29.4).
If that’s the case, there’s not much appeal in anything but deeper leagues. This offense projects to have four starters who can create off the bounce and with Dick only shooting 34.1% on corner 3’s last season, it’s hard to see him being prioritized when this team is at full strength.
That said, this group of players had a problem staying on the field last season and that could always be the case again. Dick is a player with contingent value that has my attention, but not enough for me to draft and hold.
