Should You Draft Davion Mitchell in Fantasy Basketball?

In February, the Miami Heat acquired Davion Mitchell in a trade with the Toronto Raptors. In 30 games with the Heat last season (including 15 starts), he averaged 10.3 points, 5.3 assists, 2.7 rebounds, 1.4 steals, and 1.1 3-pointers on 46.8/39.8/69.0 shooting splits. Now, Mitchell is projected to start for Miami instead of Terry Rozier, and he has had a full offseason and preseason to get acclimated and develop chemistry with his teammates.

Mitchell has always been a terrific defender, but he has made huge strides as a shooter and facilitator in recent years. He played a career-high 31.6 minutes per game last year with Miami and made the most of his increased role. Now, in his first season as a full-time starter, he could be poised for a career-year. He’s absolutely worth a late-round flier given his ability to fill the stat sheet and the fact that he could be poised for a breakout season, especially given Miami’s track record of helping players realize their full potential.
