Should You Draft Ausar Thompson in Fantasy Basketball?

Ausar Thompson is going some 60 picks later than his brother and while I think that’s right, the athletic genes are shared and that is what has many excited.

There’s one problem and it’s the jump shot. I don’t mind rostering non-threats from the perimeter, but my concern is that it limits his playing time upside for a team that very much needs floor stretchers (hence the Duncan Robinson signing).

Thompson will be a positive contributing player when on the court for both you and the Pistons, that much I’m confident in, though it will have to come at the expense of shooters and that makes him a low-floor option on a game-to-game basis.

In 2025, he averaged just 4.3 drives per game and had more turnovers than assists during those aggressive moments. His minutes went from 21 per game in the first half of the season to 24.5 post-Break, giving us a reason for hope.

Jaden Ivey doesn’t play the same position, but if he’s the 40.9% 3-point shooter that we saw pre-injury, things can open up for a Thompson explosion. I’d rather gamble in the middle rounds with this profile over a player like Cam Thomas and Naz Reid, veteran players who offer far less growth potential.
