It’s the final weekend before the NBA regular season begins, which means you’re coming here for your fantasy basketball drafts.
Should you draft Andrew Wiggins this season? Here’s the latest outlook, projections, and rankings for the Miami Heat Small Forward.

Should You Draft Andrew Wiggins in Fantasy Basketball?
Andrew Wiggins averaged 19.0 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.0 blocks during his 17 games with the Heat last season.
Asking for a repeat of that well-rounded profile over an 82-game season is a bit much and I fear that managers might gravitate to a name like this that they know in the eighth round as opposed to thinking holistically about the situation.
Miami isn’t expected to be a great team, even in the down Eastern Conference (36.5 projected wins) and that could leave Wiggins susceptible to a role that is more friendly early in the season than late, the inverse of what fantasy managers want unless the plan is to sell high.
In addition to a handful of interesting developmental pieces on this roster that are liking to soak up increasing amounts of work with time (Kasparas Jakucionis, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Nikola Jovic, Kel’el Ware, and Pelle Larsson), there’s some scoring risk to consider.
While Wiggins has been consistent in the PPG category during his career, he’s seen his rim conversion rate fall off a cliff in consecutive years and that could have a cascading effect.
Rim FG%
- 2023: 72.1%
- 2024: 63.5%
- 2025: 59.5%
This can happen for athletic players as they age and in a spot like this, I’m terrified. The jump shot has improved, but it can still leave Wiggins at times (27.9% last February) and if he’s not feared as a scoring piece, the counting numbers could suffer across the board.
There are single category stars that I prefer in this spot of the draft (one-dimensional bigs and microwave shooters are common in this range) in addition to young high-pedigree players like Ausuar Thompson/Benedict Mathurin who have my attention.
