It’s the final weekend before the NBA regular season begins, which means you’re coming here for your fantasy basketball drafts.
Should you draft De’Aaron Fox this season? Here’s the latest outlook, projections, and rankings for the San Antonio Spurs Point Guard.
Should You Draft De’Aaron Fox in Fantasy Basketball?
The case against De’Aaron Fox is an easy one, so let’s address that first.
We don’t know exactly how he and Wembanyama fit together and he’s already dealing with a hamstring injury that is going to result in some, reportedly not much, missed time to open this season.
Not ideal for a PG who signed a four-year extension this summer, but the team is wise to be cautious in October if they want their games in March to mean anything.
I’m not sure the case for Fox is difficult to make.
He’s a gifted athlete that has improved his floater shooting percentages over the past three seasons in a dramatic way from his first five. The kids would say that his “bag has grown” and by playing next to Wembanyama, all sorts of things stand to be locked even further.
But can he stay on the court?
Fox has failed to clear the 62 games he played last season in four of his past six seasons and returning value on a Round 3 pick is awfully difficult if there’s a month’s worth of games missed.
Of course, most managers are taking on at least some health risk at this point in the draft (Chet Holmgren, Ja Morant, Zion Williamson, and Jaren Jackson Jr. are call this range home). I think you’re OK to roll the dice in this range, though picking two of those five players is a dangerous way to live.
