This is a dream spot for the Packers’ defense. They are well rested coming off a bye. They are also very likely frustrated at the 40-burger they gave up to the Cowboys in a game that ended in a tie.
After festering over their disappointing performance for two weeks, the Packers’ reward will be a home date with the Bengals, who may be starting a new quarterback this week following Jake Browning’s disastrous performances in place of the injured Joe Burrow. No team has been more generous to opposing fantasy defenses than the Bengals.
They’re allowing the most fantasy points per game to defenses. Browning has thrown eight interceptions this season. If he does get benched, it’s hard to imagine his replacement will be any better. The Packers are the top defensive option this week.
New England Patriots DEF (at NO)
The New England Patriots put it all together in Week 5 to defeat the Buffalo Bills, the dominant force in the AFC East. Drake Maye and Stefon Diggs drew the plaudits, but the Patriots’ defense also showed up in a big way.
New England’s defense was the seventh-best in fantasy in Week 5 and is the seventh-best on the season. Head coach Mike Vrabel continues to build the team in his image, and those impressive fantasy rankings are unlikely to change moving forward.
The Patriots travel south to face the New Orleans Saints this weekend and will be looking to dampen the mood after the Saints’ first win of the season in Week 5.
