Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick had a message for the entire league after superstar LeBron James ‘second decision’ aired on Tuesday.
James created a lot of panic and hype amongst the basketball fraternity, his teammates, the front office staff, and his fans from all around the world after announcing that he was releasing his ‘second decision,’ 15 years after he shocked the world with the special feature ‘The Decision’ on ESPN.
JJ Redick Trolls the NBA Community After Announcement of ‘Second Decision’ by LeBron James
While James’ ‘The Decision’ had shocked the basketball realm globally, the ‘second decision’ was an advert promoting his product. In 2010, James announced that he was leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers to join the Miami Heat in a blockbuster move, while 15 years later, he was observed promoting his liquor brand, Hennessy VSOP, thereby making the ‘second decision’ a playful gimmick.
His teammates and coach quickly responded to James’s advertisement, with Redick voicing his hilarious reaction, saying, “You guys are idiots. We all knew it wasn’t happening [on James’ supposed retirement announcement]… Nobody was freaking out.”

Austin Reaves said, “I got a couple of calls like, ‘What is this?’ Obviously, I mean, it had the world on hold until whenever he released it, sometime this morning. Obviously, some people thought he was retiring; I am glad it’s not.”
Rui Hachimura said, “I texted him too. Yeah, but he’s using those weird emojis. I don’t even know what that means, but he loves to do that type of stuff. Surprising many.”
Redick Revealed His Approach for the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2025-26 NBA Season
While addressing the media, Redick was asked to reflect upon the takeaways from last season and how he envisioned using the positives to further enhance the roster’s playing quality this season and work on their weaknesses to make an impact in the playoffs of the upcoming NBA season.
JJ said, “I think when you have proof of concept, you know, where our team last year, when all those guys were healthy after the trade, I think we were 13 and four, had a top 10 offense and a top 12 defense or something like that.”
He added, “So you certainly are going to tweak things, but there’s a proof of concept and some level of. I don’t want to use the word success, some level of functionality in the group, or the philosophies. Um, but you’re, yeah, you’re always looking to tweak stuff.”
Redick concluded, “The fluidity of our schemes and coverages, they executed well… So, you’re not going to revamp your offense if you’re creating good shots, but you’re certainly going to tweak stuff.”
The Lakers will be in action next on Sunday night as they host the Warriors at Crypto.com Arena for a preseason game.
