Giannis Antetokounmpo shocked the basketball world, but it wasn’t with a crossover or a dunk. News that his family plans to leave Milwaukee for Greece permanently went viral, sparking a massive wave of speculation. While it has been a few years since the Milwaukee Bucks star truly contended for an NBA championship, there is no denying that he remains one of the best players in the league.
In fact, an argument could be made that any team acquiring Antetokounmpo would instantly transform into a title favorite. After the Bucks made questionable offseason moves, like waiving Damian Lillard and signing Myles Turner, fans were already wondering how their superstar felt about the team’s direction.
Although Antetokounmpo has not voiced any desire for a trade, the reports that his family is relocating from Milwaukee have everyone trying to understand the sudden choice. What does this move really mean for his future with the Bucks?

Why Did Giannis Antetokounmpo Relocate His Family From Milwaukee to Greece?
Anyone who has followed the Bucks star’s career knows he is from Greece and came to the United States when he was just 18 years old to declare for the NBA draft. The Bucks took a chance on him, a decision that paid off as he radically developed his physique and playstyle with each passing season.
After Antetokounmpo led the Bucks to the 2021 NBA championship, many presumed he would finish his career with the team. However, the past few seasons have had fans urging him to go elsewhere to find the support needed to contend for another title.
Since Antetokounmpo is from Greece, his decision to move his family from Milwaukee to his native country makes sense on a personal level. Beyond the constant exposure that comes with being the family of a city’s biggest sports hero, Antetokounmpo’s wife and children would always have to live with the potential of relocating towns in the event of a trade.
According to @tovimacom, Giannis Antetokounmpo’s wife, Mariah, and their four young children have reportedly moved permanently to Athens

According to a report in “To Vima,” Antetokounmpo’s wife and children have already found an apartment complex in Athens. The report also revealed that his wife, Mariah, preferred living in Greece over Milwaukee when asked about it. The move appears official and permanent, with Antetokounmpo’s children settling into a new private kindergarten.
While fans may immediately assume this is a sign that Antetokounmpo will leave the Bucks, insufficient evidence supports that claim. It is more likely that Antetokounmpo wanted his wife and children to be close to his extended family while he travels across the country during the long NBA season.
Still, not having his wife and children around could drastically affect his performance for the Bucks this upcoming season. Fans now have to wonder if he will elevate his play to new heights or struggle without his family cheering him on from the sidelines.
