In what is a major update, the timeline for the NBA’s findings in the ongoing investigation into the Los Angeles Clippers has been revealed.
The league is thoroughly investigating bombshell reports alleging that the Clippers reportedly circumvented the NBA salary cap while acquiring star forward Kawhi Leonard.
Earlier, investigative journalist Pablo Torre reported the news of a $28 million payment for a ‘no-show job’ to Leonard by Aspiration, a now-defunct company owned by Clippers owner Steve Ballmer. Allegations were made that this was a move to circumvent the league’s salary cap rules.
NBA Insider Reveals Timeline Update on League’s Investigation of the Clippers
Spotrac’s co-founder/editor, Michael Ginnitti, took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a key update on the timeline of the league’s investigation into the Clippers.
“The NBA does not expect to have a resolution on the Kawhi Leonard salary cap circumvention investigation until after the All-Star Game,” the tweet read. “The #Clippers host the All-Star Game.”

Despite Torre continuing to dish out new evidence and information on the scandal, the league-wide expectation is that the findings as uncovered will be a lengthy wait. Ginnitti’s take follows that of insider Jake Fischer, who had earlier reported that the resolution would not be until after the 2026 All-Star festivities.
Previously, NBA commissioner Adam Silver had officially announced that the league would investigate the matter.
“When the podcast came out, it was news to me. Frankly, I never heard of the Aspiration before, and I had never heard a whiff of anything earlier around the endorsement deal with Kawhi or anything around engagement with the Los Angeles Clippers,” the head honcho said earlier this month.
“It was all new to me. I saw some of the follow-up information. We spoke internally and had a conversation with Steve Ballmer. And something that rose to this level necessitates an investigation.”
The latest timeline update will surely add to the buzz around the controversy. There is every possibility that the NBA will push its findings so as not to mar the tradition, which, in recent times, has seen its fair share of criticism for being dull.
With the ASG weekend slated to be held in LA, all eyes will be on the Clippers and Leonard. Only time will tell if the Clippers will be found in violation of the league’s salary cap rules.
