Jimmy Butler’s recent outreach to Golden State Warriors management has fans questioning whether the franchise’s newest star is already planning his exit strategy. The six-time All-Star, acquired in a blockbuster trade from Miami at the February deadline, reportedly contacted team officials seeking clarity about their plans amid an ongoing contract stalemate with Jonathan Kuminga.
The Warriors have remained surprisingly quiet this offseason while other championship contenders have upgraded their rosters. Although they added Butler and went 23-7 after the trade deadline, their season ended disappointingly with a second-round playoff loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Stephen Curry’s injury during that series certainly hampered their championship hopes, but Butler’s concerns extend beyond just one playoff disappointment.

Fans Call Out Jimmy Butler for His Hypocritical Behavior
Although most teams across the league have upgraded their rosters to get closer to winning an NBA championship, the Warriors have remained silent. While they added new talent to their roster, the team has arguably gotten worse due to Jonathan Kuminga’s situation. Moreover, they let Kevon Looney leave and join the New Orleans Pelicans.
Dalton Johnson from NBC Sports Bay Area reported that Butler recently contacted the Warriors to gain clarity on their future together.
“In that ESPN article, they mentioned that Draymond and Jimmy have checked in and reached out to Jonathan Kuminga. I can confidently say that Jimmy Butler has also reached out to the team and been like, ‘what’s going on here? I just wanted to know the plan.”
Hearing this, fans believed Butler is on the verge of forcing his way out of another team, “Ahh sht… here we go again.”

Others pointed out that Butler has frequently engaged in this form of behavior: “Can we have one offseason where he chills and focuses on just the game?”

It’s understandable why Warriors fans feel frustrated with Butler. He has already established a reputation as a player who finds fault with team officials and executives.
Butler’s time with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Philadelphia 76ers ended with him blaming the management and finding a way to leave. Although no warning bells have gone off, the fact that he has already decided to meet the Warriors and express his concern is an issue that cannot be overlooked.
Some fans even attempted to taunt Butler by claiming that the Warriors’ real plan was to find a way to get him off the team: “The plan is to get you and Kuminga off the books to get a salary cap for Giannis and Jokic, obviously, lol.”

Other fans simply accepted that there is nothing that the organization can do, “Let’s be honest. They have no plan. It’s obvious.”

Since the Warriors were not expected to acquire Butler in the first place, the team still needs to adapt to its current situation. Since he might not be as patient as expected, some even thought Butler wanted to be traded: “Bro is trying to force his way out , draymond gonna know you out dive.”

Given that the Warriors’ “plan” was to acquire Butler and pair him alongside Curry, it is somewhat comical that Butler is now expecting the organization to have another plan ready. Although he has established a reputation as a top playoff performer, there is no denying that Butler did not live up to expectations for the Warriors in the 2024-25 season. His playoff performance was solid, but the team’s early exit raised questions about whether the veteran forward can still be the difference-maker Golden State needs.
In any case, this is simply not a good look and implies some form of confusion between the players, such as Butler and the Warriors’ officials. Fans are left hoping that they will be able to figure things out heading into the 2025-2026 NBA season.
