Carmelo Anthony’s Message Regarding New York

The basketball world is gearing up for Springfield, Massachusetts’s highly anticipated 2025 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame ceremony. The main event tips off at 7 p.m. ET, but the emotions have started flowing.

After the induction, Anthony sat down for an interview at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Conn., where he reflected on the journey that led him here.

Anthony admitted that this milestone has stirred feelings he never imagined, acknowledging New York City’s role in defining his legacy, specifically his time with the Knicks.

“Wanting to be in New York and wanting to accept and take on that challenge, I understood the assignment, and I understood what I was up against… I understood the people, as far as how they hold you, how they look at you, and how they receive you.”

“Win, lose, or draw … we’re talking about the Mecca of basketball. Our city, so nice they named it twice. So for me to come and represent that, and do it with such grace and such respect and take whatever comes with that, I was willing to do that,” said Anthony as per the New York Post.

Anthony’s greatness was evident long before he stepped onto an NBA court. During his lone season at Syracuse University in 2002-2003, he averaged 22.2 points and 10 rebounds per game and led the Orangemen to their first-ever NCAA Championship.

His dominance on the college stage made him one of the hottest prospects of his generation, and as expected, he was soon selected third overall by the Denver Nuggets in the legendary 2003 NBA Draft.

Anthony has demonstrated his elite status throughout his remarkable career of 19 seasons in the NBA. He earned 10 All-Star appearances and 3 Olympic gold medals as a member of Team USA and averaged 22.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game.

For Knicks fans, however, his time in New York stands above the rest.

Across seven seasons with the franchise, Anthony delivered unforgettable moments. This includes dropping 62 points at Madison Square Garden in 2014, to leading the team to its best season in over a decade in 2012-13, when he won the NBA scoring title and guided the Knicks to 54 wins.

Even before Saturday’s ceremony, Anthony’s pre-induction time has already delivered viral moments. A touching video of him receiving his Hall of Fame jacket and ring from his son Kiyan has spread quickly across social media.

Anthony won’t be alone in the spotlight. Fellow NBA legend Dwight Howard and WNBA greats Sue Bird, Maya Moore, and Sylvia Fowles will also be enshrined this year, making the Class of 2025 one of the most star-studded in recent memory.

As Anthony takes his place among basketball immortals, his confession about the weight of New York in his career adds a deeply personal layer to the celebration. True to his word, fans may see him “tear up” as he officially takes his place in the Hall of Fame.
