What Made Stephen Curry’s ‘CurryCon’ in China Such a Hit?

The drone show was everywhere online, and Curry’s reaction said it all. “That [show] was crazy, probably my favorite thing right now,” Curry said, according to NBC Sports. He added, “We have our camp and ‘CurryCon’ going on across the city, which is pretty awesome. But I just appreciate the fans and the love and energy that’s here; you can hear all the people down, just celebrating and enjoying being a part of my journey with me.”

Talking to the media after the festivities, Curry compared Chongqing to San Francisco. “The Yangtze River and the Bay Area, it’s always great to have a little bit of a different vibe, no matter where you go in the city. So there are a lot of similarities for sure and great food too, so I hope to experience that part.”

The high-tech welcome didn’t stop at flying lights. Curry, 37, tried out smart translation glasses, giving fans a glimpse of China’s next-level tech.

Adding to the excitement, one fan handed Curry a labubu, which brought a big smile to his face. Moments like these showed just how much the crowd loved having him in town.

Curry also met his doppelgänger, stopping for photos and enjoying the fun. Fans caught every moment and made sure social media saw it all.

The good vibes continued when Curry broke out his famous shooting touch. Fans got exactly what they wanted to see, with Curry sinking shots and throwing down a left-handed jam that fired up the crowd.

Curry’s brother, Seth, and NCAA star Azzi Fudd were along for the ride. The event was part of Curry’s Under Armour Brand Tour, marking China’s first ball culture event. The offseason journey also takes the group back to the United States.

Turning to the upcoming 2024-25 campaign, Curry is hoping the Warriors can chase a title now that he’s set for his first full season with All-Star Jimmy Butler. Having forward Draymond Green in the mix means the team will lean on their ‘Big 3’ to bring home another championship in the Curry era. For now, though, all eyes are on Curry’s electric summer tour.
