Is Cameron Brink Playing Tonight Against the New York Liberty? Latest Injury Update on Sparks Superstar

Cameron Brink was listed as doubtful ahead of the Sparks' Saturday showdown against defending champions New York Liberty. Will she play?

Cameron Brink’s road back from a devastating ACL injury has been long and uncertain. But as the Los Angeles Sparks prepare to face the defending champion New York Liberty on Saturday, the news Sparks fans have been waiting for finally arrived: their superstar might actually play.

How Close Is Cameron Brink to Making Her Season Debut?

According to Silver Screen and Roll’s Edwin Garcia, Brink has been upgraded from “out” to “doubtful” for Saturday’s marquee matchup. “Cameron Brink has been upgraded to doubtful for the Sparks’ upcoming game against the Liberty,” the tweet said. “Brink has not played all year due to her left knee injury, but is inching closer to a return.”

This marks the first time Brink hasn’t been ruled out altogether all season. The status change follows encouraging comments from Sparks head coach Curt Miller about Brink targeting a late July return, plus recent reports of the center participating in five-on-five scrimmages and shootaround sessions.

However, being listed as doubtful doesn’t guarantee Brink will take the court against New York. The upgrade simply means she’s progressing well in her recovery. If she doesn’t play Saturday, her next opportunity comes Tuesday when the Sparks host the Las Vegas Aces.

What Would Cameron Brink’s Return Mean for the Sparks?

When Brink does return, she’ll immediately transform both ends of the floor for Los Angeles. The second overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft made an instant impact last season despite playing just 15 games. The former Stanford star averaged 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks before her injury ended her rookie campaign.

Her shot-blocking and rim protection are exactly what the Sparks need as they chase a playoff spot in the second half of the season. Curt Miller and her coaching staff understand that Brink will need time to readjust to game speed, but they have a 10-plus game window to help her find her rhythm within their system.

The timing couldn’t be better for Los Angeles. The Sparks have found momentum with a three-game winning streak and sit 10th in the WNBA standings at 10-14. The Golden State Valkyries and Washington Mystics occupy the eighth and ninth spots, respectively, meaning a playoff push remains realistic.

While waiting for Brink’s return, the Sparks have leaned on Rickea Jackson and Dearica Hamby to fuel their recent success. Adding Cameron Brink back into the mix would give them the interior presence they’ve missed all season and potentially the boost needed to climb toward that coveted .500 mark.
