With the offseason already almost a month old, Golden State Warriors free agent Jonathan Kuminga remains unsigned. Because he’s a restricted free agent, the situation is a little complicated for Kuminga and the Warriors.
That doesn’t mean teams haven’t expressed interest in him. In fact, the latest on Kuminga reveals he’s not too down about the current situation, while also revealing who’s competing the most for his services.

Kuminga Not Accepting Warriors Offers & Fielding Interest From Two Teams
On NBA Today, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Kuminga is not rushing to make any sort of deal with the Warriors
“I saw Jonathan Kuminga this morning at a workout in Miami. He’s in good spirits; he had a good workout,” Charania said. “He did tell me, though, that he is in absolutely no rush on doing a deal with the Warriors right now, and he is not accepting their current offers.”
Charania added further details on where Kuminga’s head’s at in regards to what his plans are.
“He added that he wants to continue to explore options with his agent, Aaron Turner. Whether that’s continuing conversations with the Warriors, but also, sign-and-trade options that are available,” Charania added.
Charania concluded by revealing which two teams are interested in him, and why he would want to play there.
“I’m told the Phoenix Suns and Sacramento Kings are two teams that have made concrete offers with the Warriors over the last week or so. They’re two of the more aggressive with Kuminga, and they’re also offering him an opportunity for significant minutes, a starting-caliber role in their lineup, and those are two things that he wants more than anything,” Charania said.

Restricted free agency has always been a sticky situation, and what’s going on between Kuminga and the Warriors is more proof of that. Even if Kuminga may not be too keen on returning to the Warriors, it’s not up to him because of restricted free agency.
He would make sense on a team like the Suns or the Kings because they would give him a bigger role than the Warriors can. When Golden State acquired Jimmy Butler, they basically did so because he does what Kuminga does, only better. That’s not a shot at Kuminga, as Butler is still an incredible basketball player.
It’s clear that Kuminga should be on a team willing to be more patient with him and give him a role that will help him spread his wings. It is a shame that, when it’s all said and done, it would be shocking if Kuminga wasn’t with the Warriors on opening night.
