When Terry Rozier left a March 2023 game just ten minutes in, citing a foot issue, few raised eyebrows. But behind the scenes, something was already brewing. Nearly two years later, newly uncovered records point to a surge of suspicious betting tied directly to that game and Rozier’s performance.
Now, the Miami Heat guard is caught in the swirl of a widening federal gambling probe that has already brought down others.
New Betting Records Raise Serious Questions Over Terry Rozier Gambling Case
Freshly unearthed documents are casting renewed scrutiny on Heat guard Rozier’s involvement in an ongoing federal gambling probe; this time pointing to an unusually aggressive wave of betting activity centered on a 2023 NBA game.
According to records obtained by ESPN via open records request, a single bettor placed 30 separate wagers on Rozier’s unders — points, rebounds, and assists– over just 46 minutes on March 23, 2023.
The latest in the Terry Rozier gambling case:
• A pro bettor placed 30 wagers in 46 mins all involving Rozier in a 2023 game
• $13.7K was bet on Rozier unders (pts, rebs, asts)
• All bets won and Rozier left the game after 10 minutes with a foot issue

The bets, totaling $13,759, were made at Harrah’s Gulf Coast sportsbook in Biloxi, Mississippi, ahead of a matchup between the Charlotte Hornets and New Orleans Pelicans. At the time, Rozier was playing for the Hornets.
The largest wager, $2,700 on under 5.5 rebounds, was made in person at the betting counter using a casino loyalty card. The remaining 29 were placed through a self-service kiosk, beginning as early as 9:37 a.m., before the main betting counter had even opened for the day. Interestingly, all 30 bets hit.
That night, Rozier left the game after just 10 minutes of play, citing a foot issue. He finished with five points, four rebounds, and two assists, all of which fell under the statistical thresholds targeted in the bets.
According to analysts, the situation is made more alarming by the fact that Rozier was not listed on the Hornets’ official pregame injury report. The alignment between the bets and the game outcome has triggered serious concerns among integrity watchdogs.
And the questionable betting activity wasn’t isolated to Mississippi. At least six sportsbooks across multiple states, primarily Louisiana and Mississippi, also detected outlier action on Rozier’s prop lines. By 2:24 p.m. that day, U.S. Integrity, a firm that monitors betting markets, issued a nationwide alert titled:
“Suspicious Wagering Terry Rozier NBA Player Props.”
Within the next hour, most major sportsbooks had suspended betting on Rozier’s props, as confirmed by archived data from Unabated.com.
Though the NBA launched an internal review shortly after and concluded that Rozier had not violated league rules, the matter escalated further. In 2024, Rozier was identified as one of three NBA players under federal investigation by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York. No criminal charges have been filed against him to date.
Rozier’s attorney, Jim Trusty, told ESPN that the veteran guard has cooperated with both NBA and FBI officials, meeting with investigators multiple times since 2023. Trusty insisted that Rozier is not considered a target of the federal probe.
“It’s unfortunate that he’s a big name in sports and is having to endure all this,” Trusty said. “My hope and expectation is that… they’ll be professional enough to let us know that it’s 100 percent over and that they reached the same conclusion that was reached in 2023.”
Is There Any Possible Link to Jontay Porter Case
The widening federal probe includes several athletes, most notably former Toronto Raptors center Jontay Porter, who was banned from the NBA in 2024 and later pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges. Porter admitted to intentionally leaving games early to enable bets on his unders to cash. Four people have pleaded guilty in that case, and more remain under investigation.
Back on Jan. 30 when it was announced that Terry Rozier was being investigated for gambling, a no longer active account called @FreeMoose_NBA tweeted this:
“First was Jontay”
Then was Rozier

Now, ESPN reports that some of the same betting accounts involved in the Porter scandal were also used to place wagers on Rozier’s stats in that March 2023 game. Those accounts have also been tied to suspicious activity in multiple college basketball games over the past two seasons.
Rozier, who was traded to the Miami Heat in January 2024, remains under federal scrutiny as the case unfolds. While there has been no public indication of direct involvement in wrongdoing, his name is yet to be cleared by authorities.
What’s Next for Rozier?
At this stage, Rozier remains under investigation, but has not been charged or formally accused of any misconduct. With no indication yet of league discipline or legal action, he is expected to continue with the Heat as planned, unless the federal inquiry escalates.
“an NBA suspension of Rozier would afford the Heat salary-cap and luxury tax relief of 50% of the salary lost during a suspension. An NBA banishment of Rozier would remove Rozier’s salary from the Heat’s payroll.”

His future hinges on whether investigators uncover any direct ties between Rozier and the bettors behind the suspicious activity. If he is charged with any criminal activity related to the betting investigation, he may be banned from the NBA and even face financial repercussions.
