NBA World Stunned Over Bronny James’ Impressive 17-Point Game in Lakers’ Summer League Loss to Clippers

NBA fans react to Bronny James' 17-point Summer League outing against the Clippers with many impressed by his development and progress.

The Bronny James brigade is back out and stronger than ever. On Monday, the Los Angeles Lakers guard put on another solid display at the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. James impressed during a contest against the Los Angeles Clippers, recording a team-high 17 points and chipping in with 5 rebounds and 5 assists.

This was the type of performance that the Lakers organization and head coach JJ Redick had been looking for from the 20-year-old. Bronny, the son of legendary NBA superstar LeBron James, showed some promising signs over his first year in the pros, but it looks like he is finally developing into the player the Lakers hoped for when they used the 55th pick to draft him.

James’ progress has been closely followed among NBA circles since he was promoted to the pros in the 2024 NBA Draft. While some questioned the Lakers’ decision to select a player who averaged just 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists at the collegiate level, others believe the 6’3″ guard has the potential to develop into a solid role player in the NBA.

Monday’s display went a long way to remind fans what James offers. With his father, Redick (coach), and Rob Pelinka (Lakers general manager) in the stands, James had arguably his best Summer League performance to date.

NBA fans were also impressed by what they saw from James, with many taking to social media to praise the young guard’s progress.

“He’ll prove everyone wrong,” said one fan.

“Yall gotta remember. He was just a rookie last year. Every year players get better … Even Kobe had a bad rookie year,” said another fan.

“Where’s all them haters saying ‘he shouldn’t be in the league’ I bet they look stupid now,” said a fan.

“Development is going great,” commented another fan.

After a shaky rookie season where he bounced between the G-League’s South Bay Lakers and Los Angeles, James seems to be finding his footing. He was composed, confident, efficient, and was able to show off his playmaking abilities over the 24 minutes he played.

Overall, James finished the night with 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting and converted three 3-pointers. He accounted for 29.3% of his team’s total points.

“Bronny cooking under the Vegas lights, bro is on fire,” said one account.

“He done found his swag,” commented another fan.

Last season, James featured in 27 games (starting once) and averaged 2.3 points, 0.7 rebounds, and 0.8 assists over 6.7 minutes per game. The Lakers will enter the 2025 season with a thin roster, and he should see more minutes in the coming year. The pressure will be immense, but James is proving that, like his father, he can handle the spotlight.
