What Number Will Jordan Poole Wear For the Pelicans? Viral Post Reveals the Answer

Following his trade from the Washington Wizards, Jordan Poole is set to return to a familiar jersey number with the New Orleans Pelicans.

A week after getting traded to the New Orleans Pelicans, shooting guard Jordan Poole has reportedly settled on a new jersey number.

On July 6, the Washington Wizards finalized a three-team blockbuster deal involving the Houston Rockets, sending Poole to New Orleans. The shake-up landed Washington a return headlined by veteran guard CJ McCollum and high-upside wing prospect Cam Whitmore.

Poole has donned two different uniform numbers over his first six seasons with the Wizards and Golden State Warriors. As such, Pelicans fans were anxious to see which one the 2022 NBA champion would choose next.

Jordan Poole Set To Wear No. 3 With Pelicans

After being selected 28th overall by the Golden State Warriors in the 2019 NBA Draft, Poole wore No. 3 throughout his first four seasons, including during the team’s 2022 championship run. Following his trade to Washington in the 2023 offseason, Poole opted for a new number, switching to No. 13 for the past two seasons.

According to NBA numerologist Etienne Catalan’s viral Sunday tweet, Poole will revert to No. 3 as a Pelican, the number previously worn by his trade counterpart, McCollum.

Poole is expected to be a key offensive contributor for the Zion Williamson-led Pelicans, who are looking to bounce back from an injury-plagued 21-win season. With starting point guard Dejounte Murray sidelined to start the year as he recovers from a torn right Achilles suffered on January 31, the pressure on Poole to carry the backcourt load will be even greater.

Poole experienced little success during his two-year stint with the Wizards, as the Eastern Conference bottom-feeder won 33 total games. Even so, he made strides as a scorer, playmaker, and leader in his second season with the organization, averaging career highs of 20.5 points and 4.5 assists per game.

Poole’s Former Teammate Expects Him To Make Major Impact With Pelicans

Among those optimistic about Poole heading to New Orleans is his ex-Warriors teammate Draymond Green, who foresees the deal benefiting both sides.

“When I look at this Pelicans move, I like it,” Green said on “The Draymond Green Show with Baron Davis” late last month (timestamp: 31:30). “I think when you add a talent like Jordan Poole … Jordan still has room for growth. I don’t think we’ve seen the best of his growth yet. I think getting in an organization like New Orleans under Joe Dumars’ leadership with Willie Green as coach, I think will be a really good situation for him.

“… When I look at this for the Pelicans, I look at this as a net positive. You didn’t have to go crazy from a salary-cap standpoint. I think Jordan may make a little less than CJ or right around the same amount, but I think you still got time for him to prove himself, a couple more years left on his deal.”

Poole, who reunites with his ex-Golden State teammate and recent Pelicans free agent signing Kevon Looney, appears elated for a fresh start. The 26-year-old has already made his presence felt among New Orleans’ veterans at the Las Vegas Summer League.
However, given the cutthroat status of the Western Conference, Poole may need to further elevate his production to return to his early career winning ways.
